⚠️ Despite all the hype, chatbots still make terrible doctors. Out today is the largest user study of language models for medical self-diagnosis. We found that chatbots provide inaccurate and inconsistent answers, and that people are better off using online searches or their own judgment.

Acclarent “knew or should have known that the purported artificial intelligence caused or exacerbated the tendency of the integrated navigation system product to be inconsistent, inaccurate, and unreliable,” the suit alleges. Alex from our time working together, while he was in nursing school. Later, he moved to ICU, working as a nurse to support critically ill Veterans. He had such a great attitude. We’d chat between patients about trying to get in a mountain bike ride together. Will never happen now

We need to get over this notion that existing social media platforms are at all necessary. Tech billionaires created them for profit, then sold them as socially beneficial even as they continually eroded any real benefits.

Social media has become a corrosive force on society, in large part because of how companies driven to maximize profits and engagement have shape dominant social media platforms to serve their interests regardless of the effect on their users or the broader society. Mental health consequences of what’s shared on social media, but also how the platforms are designed to keep people hooked on an algorithmic loop of content, affect adults and seniors just as much as young people — if not more in some cases. Platforms have also destroyed the information environment, pushing unreliable and often extreme content at people to get them engaged, driving them to conspiracy and right-wing extremism. That has only been amplified with the proliferation of AI-generated content.
