If you want to remove the swinginess of a single d20, you need to use more dice.
3d6 gives you a similar range with more distribution around 10~11.
If you still want ~5% Critical Success or Failure: any time two 6s or two 1s show up, regardless of what the third die is.

The content is pretty sparse and surface level. Though I do think I outdid myself with the VFX and acceptably with the audio mixing.
