Followup: Discord Support reverted the account to my email address for recovery, and I was able to get it back. I still worry about the potential for back-doors remaining for a 2nd-pass attack, so I still don't expect anyone to trust that account, but at least I was able to get back into my servers.

American culture of the 1840’s would have been *very fucking surprised* to see the Irish considered as co-founders.

Elon’s an ahistorical dipshit, but its always worth saying some stuff out loud: if you‘re a fellow Irish-American and you aren’t 100% pro-immigrant, you’re a fucking embarassment.
1/3 What Musk is really referring to here is, of course “race” - that construct that served to define the hierarchies of wealth & power structured by modern colonialism. Like other far right racists though, he uses the word “culture” as a seemingly less pernicious synonym.

Whenever you read a horrifying list like this about people who are critically ill or died in ICE concentration camps it’s important to remember that these are just the stories that got out because they were lucky enough to have lawyers who could tell their stories.

If natural disasters strike while DHS is shut down, Ds in Congress should propose clawing back funds from the $75 billion in future funding allotted to ICE to pay for a FEMA response.

Folks have noted that shutting down DHS also means shutting down FEMA. But it's important to remember that Trump already has been fighting to deny $233 million in FEMA funding to blue states. www.ksbw.com/article/judg...
Judge orders restored disaster funding to Democratic-led states
A federal judge has ruled that the Trump administration must restore $233 million in disaster funding to at least a dozen states. The funding was previously slashed over so-called "sanctuary" immigrat...

Something I tell students: don’t confuse "profitable" with "efficient." Slavery was wildly profitable for masters but inefficient for the South. It stifled urbanization, killed consumer markets (slaves don't buy goods), and prevented industrialization. It built a fragile wealth trap for the elite./3

“Children are property of their parents” is a view that southern conservative Christians continue to hold and no joke it is a residuum of the slave power
He would be the first to tell you it’s a thought which was not original to him, but Kermit Roosevelt III’s The Nation that Never Was (arguing that there is no founding but the Second Founding and Lincoln is its prophet) really drove home the point that a very large portion of American slavery was…

slavery is one of the rare things historically where the more you learn about it the more you realize your initial assessment was correct and it was in fact one of the most evil things ever to occur

But they have noticed in recent weeks a shift from aggressive street sweeps in Minneapolis to instead target people in the suburbs or quietly waiting in unmarked vehicles of residential areas.

Fascists will use your empathy against you. Because they know, unlike them, most working class folks feel a moral obligation to help those around them needing a neighbourly helping hand. Have to be careful for your own personal safety and in losing that empathetic response due to fear of violence.
