And right now the Trump admin is killing fiber broadband investment and handing Elon Musk billions to provide the mediocre overpriced Starlink service people can already get, and which they'll still have to pay for.

Taxpayers will pay Musk for "capacity."

TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".

Glad to see people talking about Penn Jillette. The 2024 interview was done by me. I found him to be a refreshingly reflective, self-critical individual who has remained curious and willing to evolve.

If I could give one food tip to folks it is this:

Buy a big thing of Tony Chachere's original Creole seasoning. It can make even the cheapest, blandest food taste pretty damn good. Only have plain white rice or beans? Maybe some eggs? Throw some on, done. Instantly delicious.

To be very clear: Kennedy's team is messing with a vaccine which has led to a 99 percent drop in the incidence of hepatitis B, which kills, early and painfully, 25 percent of the children who get it.

if you're a WNBA or NWSL social media team you probably have mixed feelings about the growing popularity of Heated Rivalry because on the one hand a rising gay tide lifts all gay boats but on the other you've been grinding in the gay mines for years when these beefy fellas just waltzed in yesterday

The last time Indiana won an outright Big Ten title, 1945, the leading rusher was George Taliaferro.

The next spring, he was the first Black player to be drafted by an NFL team.

human being don't make Slop because human beings have individual idiosyncrasies and sensibilities so what they make is inherently an expression of themselves. most people don't do oil paintings, they doodle. that is expression. the low brow is still personal when it's made by a person

when a poor person uses food stamps for a steak or homeless person spends $5 on a beer, it’s seen as proof that all poor people are so bad with money that they shouldn’t be given any, ever, for any reason. $77 billion out the window, and zuck’s legacy as a safe government contract bet is secure.

governments should act accordingly

Nebraska Lincoln is both the flagship and the land grant university for the state. You better believe the ignoramuses in charge will not stop there - and be prepared for it.
It's over.

Despite the fact that the academic council recommended against it, despite the fact that the program brought in more tuition than it cost, and despite the fact that Nebraskans need & deserve this expertise, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences will be cut.
