So glad y'all liked that last video with Seckou! Here’s one with Francesco Turrisi on percussion and an original song by Seckou Keita just for our tour!

This message is meant less for most primary voters and more for organizers, and in that respect I find it interesting. And I've got to admit: it'd be great if NY WFP could return most of its focus to building the Left (instead of spending half its capacity blocking the Right because the Dems don't).

Today, we released a plan to reform New York’s Democratic Party — laying out a roadmap to expand access, strengthen democracy, and uplift every community across New York.

Together, we can build a future rooted in fairness and opportunity.

Book challenges aren't just about the books. They are about *public* places and spaces and who controls them and who belongs.

And the library infrastructure for print books continues to crumble. No more binderies, no more distributors. Getting pretty bleak!

Our main objective in NYC is a million votes for Zohran, with 200k of those on the Working Families line. #VoteZonRowD.

Our secondary objective is to block MAGA. In particular, Kayla Santosuosso's win in District 47 (BK) would not only help block the Right but also help build the Left. VoteWFP.info
Screenshot of the top of the New York Working Families Party's "Vote WFP" website for the 2025 general election. On the upper left is a photo of a multi-racial group of people wearing Working Famlies Party t-shirts and Zohran for NYC campaign bandanas while holding WFP signs or Zohran campaign signs. On the upper right are the words, "Vote WFP: Build power for working people." On the bottom is a black-and-white image of a line from a NYC general-election ballot showing the candidates for NYC mayor. Superimposed on that image is a zoomed-in image of the box for the Working Families Party ballot line; this box is in a conspicuous orange color and shows the letter "D" (since WFP currently occupies the position of "row D" on ballots in New York), with "Zohran Kwame Mamdani" as the candidate, and the bubble next to his name filled in.

Jesus. This is huge. B&T is, or I guess now was, one of the main library vendors for print books.

BrilliantNYC (a plan to expand access) was scrapped by the Adams administration in favor of doubling down on this failed model, but here it is: drive.google.com/file/d/1YIYY...

@zohrankmamdani.bsky.social’s call to rethink G&T has re-ignited a longstanding debate about the problematic role of our current G&T model, which is outdated, ineffective, and perpetuates segregation.

In my district there was a community engagement process in ~2021 abt the future of kindergarten

Nobody asked for g&t

Then Adams tripled the # of g&t programs from 1 to 3. Last year the 3 programs enrolled 12, 7 & "suppressed" students in 1st grade, respectively

@joho.bsky.social is a practicing clinician at NYU & a public health hero. In his previous book he documented the unhinged campaign in the early years of COVID to tell us SARSCOV2 was no big deal, we should let people get infected. Now these maniacs are in charge. Read about it here in his new book.

COVID killed 1.2 million Americans while vaccines saved millions.

Yet, disinformation superspreaders were empowered, where they are taking a wrecking ball to science & medicine.

Closson has quoted this person in both the original piece yesterday and today’s “drumbeat” piece.

Twice he has failed to divulge her failed run for state senate as a Republican and the fact that the right-wing parents’ rights group she runs endorsed Cuomo

Embarrassing and disqualifying!
"This is just a hornet's nest to step into," said Yiatin Chu, a public school parent and the co-founder of Parent Leaders for Accelerated Curriculum and Education, a group that has advocated for gifted and talented programs.
She said that Mr. Mamdani's plan could take a particular toll on families who can't pay for private education or for additional academic opportunities to supplement the school day. PLACE NYC Endorses

In light of today's news about Zohran's plans to end the Gifted & Talented program for children 5 years and younger:

I highly recommend checking out the recently released Policy Roadmap of New Yorkers for Racially Just Public Schools (RJPS.org).

It really sets the standards for educational equity.

I just want to point out again that last night Cuomo effectively said that any NYC family that can do so should move to the suburbs for the schools like he did, I think that might be slightly more important and relevant than his neither innovative nor particularly comprehensive education platform

This is EXCELLENT.

1) this is spot-on analysis of the problem & a great immediate 1st thing a city can do to improve outcome.

2) as a 2 min clip? He's giving history, hope & change. Speaking to women, to Jewish & Black NYers, saying "abortion." & also naming eugenics in feminism. 100/10 no notes.

NYC-area folks! Please come out to this "New Yorkers Against ICE" rally tomorrow at 6:00PM in Foley Square. My union helped organize this action, and we're hoping for a big turnout. Foley Square is just a couple of blocks away from the immigration courthouses where ICE is kidnapping our neighbors.
Read, blue, and yellow digital sign announcing a protest in NYC on September 25th with butterflies along the border that reads:

New Yorkers Against ICE

6PM, 9/25, Foley Square

DEMANDS

1) ICE out of New York, ICE out of the Courts!
2) Pass NY4All in Albany & NYC Trust Act in NYC!
3) No Troops in NYC! Hands Off NYC!

A great article that captures the many concerns with the two boro president appointees / future direction of the board (and disappointment in Mark Levine) - even as parents are thrilled with the overturn of the anti-trans resolution.
hellgatenyc.com
The anti-trans resolution that roiled one of Manhattan's public school parent councils for the last year and a half has finally been rescinded.

Does that mean the District 2 council has put messy factional politics behind it?

Nah.

If blue states and cities had a peacetime bond drive to outlast this administration, that “debt” could be purchased by a progressive administration too. Same with complementary currencies of all kind.

Whether it’s money or debt is politics, not economics.

As a government information librarian who archives a lot of federal web pages, I strongly recommend this approach. The Internet Archive and similar tools are great, but, as mentioned here, are imperfect tools and there is just too much uncertainty about continued access to federal resources.

This moment is disturbing even in the mundane: I’ve started taking screenshots of historical sources I’m using in research from the national park service, the smithsonian, and the national archives, just in case they get taken down. It’s now a part of my process and takes time I have to plan for.
