Just so you so know, I plan to use this space much as I did the other one i.e. when I post, I'm often just trying to put my own thoughts in order. If you find that interesting or useful, that's great; if not, that's also great. I'm not here to chase engagement.

Excellent summary.

However, the bit about Noah Smith only applies up until we get to the relevant verse of the Niemöller poem.
I think the best way to explain the X vs Bluesky preference is whether a person thinks the left is more annoying than the right is dangerous.

The reason so many Noah Smiths end up on the X side of that equation is that while the left annoys them personally, the right mostly endangers other people.

Yet more “give them what they want so they don’t get what they want!”

How in the world are people not seeing what’s happening here?

Jenrick, Farage, Lowe and every other right winger is absolutely going to be celebrating this.

Can't remember who said it, but the way to understand this is to realise that he thinks his orders are legal, regardless what any jurists have to say on the matter. The Trump view is that he was elected President and therefore it follows that anything he does is legal.
Here is Pete Hegseth, on several occasions in 2016, lauding the military "ethos" that means they will refuse to follow unlawful orders - which he reckons is treason, now that they are his orders - because "there have to be consequences for abject war crimes".

Deserves to go viral.

Hello, friends!

I'm preparing a warning document about gen AI for my students next semester.

If you have any SPECIFIC examples here of AI lying, making up sources, etc, drop them so I can include them as evidence of why students shouldn't use AI.

Bonus if they come from Claude.

Reminds me of a teacher colleague who absolutely hated the font. One day, While searching for something on the school network, I find a copy of the behaviour policy that was pinned up next to his head in the break room. I converted the whole A3 document into Comic Sans and replaced his original...
If you Google "why is comic sans hated" all the results appear in comic sans.

Last year Sky News was rending its garments over Starmer's free eyeglasses: WHAT INFLUENCE DID LORD ALLI BUY?

Now, RefUK get £9m from a crypto bro, they have not one word about the donor's interests; just BRAVO NIGEL, barely concealed glee, and "what a huge boost... money goes where momentum is". 🤡

Countless things wrong with Labour's pandering to the right but one, as we can see, is that the right will hate them with a demented fury regardless of what they do so one would be wise not to invite the hatred of the left (very broadly defined) as well. I've never understood that strategy

“Put bluntly, net migration fell because 400,000 fewer foreigners arrived, and 200,000 more foreigners left the UK. This is precisely what Reform, the Mail, and the new, nastier Tory Party have claimed – again and again – they wanted to happen. And now that it has, they have ignored it entirely.”
The crazy right will never be satisfied about migration
Keir Starmer slashed net migration as the Mail and Farage demanded - and still got hammered for it
