Freelance pals: in case you didn't know, the Budget changes to working from home expenses DON'T apply to self-employed people, so you can still claim % or flat rate of household bills to cover a room's use as an office. Also, if an employer requires you to work from home (eg online teaching).

Don’t ever let anyone gaslight you that there’s no problems with racism in Scotland
November 24, 2025 at 6:12 PM
This is DISGUSTING.
How have we allowed the normalisation of such utter racism?
It's bollocks anyway, I've been involved in various events held in schools and it's all very carefully managed.
What can we do to help these targeted mothers/teachers?
NEW: Protesters targeted a Scottish primary school on Monday as English classes were put on for mothers

Signs read 'protect our schools' and 'Glasgow City Council protect our kids'

This is very David Brent, isn't it?
How is this man a grown adult? With children?
Everything about this might be the saddest thing I’ve ever seen

I am very amused to learn that the baddie in Wicked is basically called Mrs Horrible. Even Dickens would blush.

I do think British people need to understand that this is why Musk’s money is aiming at the UK now. The BBC and the NHS are trusted English-language sources that people in the US can access so the people who favour this disinformation would like to destroy them.
This does feel like a major crossing of the Rubicon – the world's best-funded and in many ways most powerful public health agency is now actively pushing disinformation.

I know there's a *lot* going on to care about at the moment, but this one really is significant, and matters well beyond the US.
The CDC website now disseminates disinformation about vaccines, claiming erroneously that infant vaccines might cause autism, when we know conclusively that they do not. It is difficult to overstate just how dangerous this is. www.cdc.gov/vaccine-safe...

Well, I am pleased for all you people who are pleased.
I did not know this was even happening till five minutes ago, but I presume it explains the fireworks.

It needs to be emphasized that this paragraph is about Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Watching Bridget Jones' Diary for the 1000th time and thinking yet again that it's a 5 star movie with a 1 star soundtrack - just astoundingly bad, clonky choices every time (All By Myself obviously aside). The Geri Halliwell cover of It's Raining Men is just unforgiveable. Any others as mismatched?

My mum is 86. She's been waiting for her second eye cataract op for 18 months, has fallen twice due to uneven vision. They sent letter giving a surgery appointment on the day letter arrived, obviously she missed it. Now back on the waiting list for god knows how long. Familiar but sickening story.

If Advil is (I think?) the same as Nurofen, I completely agree - it was a total game changer. Up till then I suffered with a useless prescription thing called Ponstan, or over the counter Feminax. Nurofen didn't fix everything but it was SO much better. Vance is, yet again, a misogynist moron.
It's so stupid for me to get pissed about this, but I still remember the radical shift when Advil went over-the-counter, when I was a freshman in college— I was wrecked by cramps, non-functional, & suddenly, this cheap miracle fixed it all in 20 min
JD Vance calls ibuprofen "useless medication" and implies it's not "necessary, safe and effective."

In a quite fancy West End restaurant today and someone had carved - actually carved - the words "Fucking Hitler" on the wooden table. While it's good it was an ANTI-Hitler message, that ... really isn't something I want to see over lunch. Wondered whether to say but surely they must have noticed it?

Oh my god, how many massive bangs are enough! So sick of this endless fireworks racket. Kids can't sleep, dogs scared (thankfully mine now deaf), it's been hours nonstop, why is it legal to sell things this LOUD?!

Ah, how lovely. My boy is 15 and basically disabled now, I get it.
This piece by Melissa Harrison is simply gorgeous. My beloved dog Tilly also had pancreatitis in her last year, and taking care of her was privilege, not a chore. She'd spent her whole life taking care of me, after all. I still miss her with every breath. mzharrison.substack.com/p/loving-an-...

My relative who has literally mentioned how much she dislikes Meghan Markle once a week for the past four years: "Oh, all this Andrew stuff is overkill, is there nothing else happening in the world that's newsworthy?"

I keep thinking that if Charles had, idk, died in a skiing accident in his 20s, we'd all be living with King Andrew today, listening to him being exalted all the time. Such a terrible, random system.
