My beloved J has found a new job!
Pays about four times what the old one did and should be less stressful. Does involve close to an hour commuting, but the route is pretty and I'm going to teach him how to use Libby. :) Plus, they'll allow 2 days of work-from-home once he gets established.

Twice this week when meeting a new person I've gotten an excited "Wow, it must be an exciting time to be a political scientist!" and both times I've answered "Not really. That's like telling someone it's an exciting to be a surgeon when there's a 63 car pileup on the highway."

Woke up over two hours before my phone expected me to, so it never charged all the way. Took me a moment to figure out why it was giving me a low battery alert when it's usually fine until 10pm. lol.

FINALLY taught my first lesson of the year. Despite the conditions, they made AMAZING progress.
I tried to explain to them how impressive linked turns ON ICE your first week is, but I don't know if they believed me.
Next week we should have fresh snow. They're going to rock it!

One thing we covered in my clinic today was how we need to treat ourselves like we treat our students. No yelling. No name calling.
Seriously. If a student told me their last instructor treated them like my inner voices treat me, I'd demand a name and try to get that person fired.

Got on snow today. The conditions are crap and my ski got a booboo from a rock, but it was nice to be around my peers and fell like part of the mountain community.
I'm struggling not to sink into depression and it's hard to connect online these days because my timelines are flooded with negativity.

Another factor in people not using the ski lift safety bar: we still have enough barless chairs in the US we almost HAVE to be comfortable without the bar. Plus, those chairs send a clear message that bars aren't needed.
Although the stigma doesn't help.

I love that idea!
I wish there was a generic public pronoun that was used for strangers and didn’t carry any association with a particular identity. and then once you get to know someone personally you learn their private pronoun

22 hours after my wife lost her phone, I found it for her. Buried in slush in a driveway up our street. Despite being run over, it's still working fine.

I just wrapped up the first draft of a 47k novella... Which will need editing. But not tonight.
I didn't start writing this thing until the third week of December, so I feel pretty good about about the speed it came together at. I just hope the structure is as sound as I think.

Winter's First Verse currently sits at 47k words. Which... People debate if the upper limit for a novella is 40 or 50k. I think 47k is reasonable within fantasy. But we'll see if it stays in that vicinity.
