Remember April 2009 when about 250,000 people took to America’s streets in Tea Party rallies and the media was like “oh man, the Dems are in trouble?” Approximately 28X as many people took to the streets to protest Trump yesterday. Didn’t even make the NYT front page.

In April of 2009 I observed the Tea Party rally in Salem. As this front page story says, there were a couple hundred people there. This past weekend in Salem there were roughly 2-3000 people at the Hands Off rally. Yet the Tea Party coverage seemed to take that event far more seriously.

Hundreds gather at Salem Tea Party to rally against bailouts, state-level taxes

Hundreds of people uneasy over the future of their country gathered on the state Capitol steps on Wednesday to protest federal spending and state-level taxation.

than 1,000 people attended the Salem Tea Party protest, which ran from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Organizers placed attendance at more than 2,000 people.
The rally was passionate but peace-ful, although many people carried handmade signs bearing stark and angry messages. A fake wooden pitchfork read "Politicians take note. We the people are about to revolt." Anoth er sign read "200+ years to build the Republic, 3 mos. to destroy it."
Many attendees said they were motivated to protest by the billions in stimulus spending and bailouts that have been doled out in recent months.

Petro objected to the US bombing a Columbian fishing vessel that had the emergency beacon on because they were broken down, that we subsequently bombed. One Columbian fisherman survived the attack.

The only explanation for this is that these people would disprove the administration’s narrative about the identity of the people we are murdering. I’m a little surprised they didn’t just straight-up murder these two in custody. That’s who the government is now.

Seriously, though - people keep asking "what are the protesters asking for, and what's their strategic plan to get it?"

I think what they're asking for is for America to be restored and Trump to subjected to the law. And I think the plan to get it is to demonstrate that there are so, so many of us.

Hi, I'm the ProPublica reporter who's been tracking an unusual stat: U.S. citizens grabbed by immigration agents.

I did it because the government isn’t.

This is what I found.

Immigration agents have the authority to detain whom they reasonably suspect are in the country illegally. We found more than 50 Americans who were held after agents questioned their citizenship. They were almost all Latino.

Agents also can arrest citizens who allegedly interfered with or assaulted officers. We compiled cases of about 130 Americans, including a dozen elected officials, accused of assaulting or impeding officers.

Among the citizens detained are nearly 20 children, including two with cancer.

If you want to do this, I think it's odd, but no one can stop you.

But stop telling other people this. It's paranoid and weird, and it undermines the point of mass organizing - which is being publicly opposed to the regime and collecting info for future actions - and does Trump's work for him.
