Jacob Frey has been Mayor for 8 years, and has had complete power and control over the City for the last 4 years. All City departments other than the legislative department report to him and he’s in charge of implementation of all policies and budgets.

I personally know the gentleman who wrote this thread and I know no one who is more locked in to city politics. He works at city hall and has lived and breathed this stuff his whole life. If he says Frey is slime, Frey is slime. Read through this whole thread and then don’t put him on your ballot.
I’m asking everyone to vote for a new Mayor by Tuesday and rank all 3 of Omar Fateh, Dewayne Davis, and Jazz Hampton in whichever order you prefer. I’ve worked at City Hall for the last 4 years and from my personal experiences I believe the City desperately needs a new mayor.

OMG. Money is absolutely corrupting our local elections.
screenshot of text message circulating among college students where a guy who is working for a frey-supporting PAC asks someone to get people in their frat to "vote and engage in the election" to get paid $350 for 3 hours of work, and if they win, they'll get a bonus

He did the same with the mayor being solely responsible for the oversight of the police!
My personal view of events are: (1) Frey made solving homelessness a notable part of his first campaign, (2) he quickly found that the problem was not as easy as he thought, (3) he became frustrated and disengaged, (4) the problem got worse, then (5) he got mad at activists and started lashing out

Say what you will about Ken Martin, but in my experience he went out of his way to stay neutral, and he earned a lot of credibility from that. Carlbom and his DFL couldn’t be any further from that approach. Doesn’t seem great.
Ummmmm fucking hello??? Conflict of interest? @dfl.org does anyone there even care about the implications of this??

What an ugly, ugly state of affairs the state DFL has presided over. At every point they have worked to ignore the will of Minneapolis delegates to prop up a failure of a mayor so that the same 15 people can run this city. Just foul work.
"can we expect minneapolis to turn out in even years if we throw out their voices in odd years?" asks maraist, "now is not the time to take this support for granted."

If you’re lucky enough to get the Mayor’s newsletter, then yesterday you got to see him TAKE CREDIT FOR A BILL HE VETOED LESS THAN A YEAR AGO.

Flanked by some people who aren’t on City Council, Mayor Frey made a big deal about passing carbon fees - something he tried to stop.

I was a Fateh guy because he had the best chance of beating Frey at the convention, but Davis is clearly the better leader for the city right now -- just a perfect combination of good policy and clear-eyed, big-hearted leadership
fiery speech from dewayne davis addressing dinner du nord, looking at photos of who was at the table and not recognizing the mayor’s friends from when he goes to the food shelf, contrasted with the encampments and shootings, who is being invited to the table?

I am furious that the FCC threatened to shut down the companies that broadcast the Stephen Colbert Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live causing their removal. Please review the First Amendment (copied in part, below).

We DO NOT need to live this way. There are solutions proven effective to prevent this violence.

We need leaders who are willing to prioritize the safety and well being of young people. We will not accept inaction!
We are monitoring the situation in Minneapolis where police are responding to an active shooter at Annunciation Catholic School.

Back to school season shouldn't be synonymous with gun violence. But in the U.S. that's our reality.

It doesn't have to be this way.

One of the reasons why Kareem and I have chosen to make this city our home is because Minneapolis is full of people who care deeply about their communities.

We deserve a leader who will bring that love for our city into the Mayor's Office.

Our unsheltered neighbors need compassion and resources, not to be pushed to margins so they remain out of sight.

We deserve a Mayor who will be honest with us about the scope of this crisis and will treat our unhoused neighbors with respect and dignity.
