Pity the Nation

Pity the nation whose people are sheep
And whose shepherds mislead them

Pity the nation whose leaders are liars
Whose sages are silenced
And whose bigots haunt the airwaves ...

The whole of the poem in the screenshots.
Poem "Pity the Nation" divided into two screen shots:
Pity the nation whose people are sheep
And whose shepherds mislead them

Pity the nation whose leaders are liars
Whose sages are silenced
And whose bigots haunt the airwaves

Pity the nation that raises not its voice
Except to praise conquerors
And acclaim the bully as hero
And aims to rule the world
By force and by torture

Pity the nation that knows
No other language but its own
And no other culture but its own

Pity the nation whose breath is money
And sleeps the sleep of the too well fed

Pity the nation oh pity the people
who allow their rights to erode
and their freedoms to be washed away

My country, tears of thee
Sweet land of liberty! Entire poem in alt text of first picture.

I knew if I logged into Twitter, it would take me 30 seconds to find this kind of reaction.

I was wrong. It was more like 33.
Hate-addled maniac railing that Diwali is ABSOLUTELY NOT AN AMERICAN HOLIDAY! (All-caps theirs, of course.)

Yeah, I love the feel of that material. It's on the list of what I look for. We have a wider range of alternatives, which is great. But it's still mostly plastic, plastic, plastic - which is not.

I did not know this!

True. "Woke" literally means "awake, aware of the realities of the situation."

When strangers, awed by Siddhartha Gautama, asked him if he was a spirit or saint of some kind he said no. "What are you, then?" They asked.

He said, "I am awake."

Found this artist at the Maker Faire. No idea what I'm going to do with the patch, but I could hardly leave it there, now could I?
Purple woven patch with a cat silhouette and the words "Sometimes antisocial, always anti-fascist." Plus bookmark for Library Cat Designs/Green Nerd Designs.

What happens when you leave the nature and value of your town vulnerable to the whims of the richest people on the planet. www.sfgate.com/food/article...

News flash: they do not care about you, and you can't make them.

1. I love David Simon more every time I learn something new about him.

2. I first thought he sat down for an interview with Ben Shapiro and my teeth all fell out.
junoryleejournalism.com
David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

Ha! I have no idea why this happened, or where the little darlings came from. I suspect there were tiny bulbs in a potted plant I bought from someone - garage sale, Craigslist, dunno. But I'm blown away how fragrant two little blooms can be, and six more on the way!

When a baby narcissus volunteers out of nowhere, there's still joy to be had. What a wonderful surprise!

The reason why Columbus Day came into being is also informative. Like yesterday's antifa started in the Weimar Republic, this one is just as telling - they know the history and want to erase it.

This - both the passion and content.

The merchants of "the educated elite", "political correctness", "cancel culture", and every other phrase weaponized against the rise of the rest of us - they've won.

From the idiocy of "Gulf of America" to the heartbreak of anti-trans violence - they've won.

It really can't be said enough: the goal of the "anti-woke" movement was always to destroy social norms against bigotry. And it worked. And there's a whole lot of purportedly "left" thinkers & commentators who helped it -- indeed, it couldn't have been done without them.

They should feel bad.

I was a columnist at Harper's during #metoo, which was apparently the bridge too far for the publisher; the magazine swung right, starting with attacks on feminism and defenses of abusers. Needless to say, I departed.

"Outrageously, Christopher Columbus has been a prime target of a vicious and merciless campaign to erase our history, slander our heroes, and attack our heritage."

As usual, "our" excludes non-white people, historians, educated citizens - anyone with a clear-eyed view of US history. The enemy.

I've got 30 more pounds to go, so I've been in the peculiar mode of buying temporary clothes. Very few new, mostly thrift, eBay, Poshmark, and shopgoodwill.com. I'm paying attn to quality and content, less to brand. In time, new clothes with more of an eye to duration. I do keep clothes forever!

Dropped a few sizes, so replacing a lot of clothes. Found that, with all we know about microplastics and landfills full of clothes, polyester and nylon clothes still dominate by far, especially at mid- to lower price points. We've got to do better.

I know, the world is burning. But still.

Major points to @thecontrarian.bsky.social for their Stephen Miller pic selection. It's like someone unearthed a Nazi blow-up doll.
A truly disturbing snapshot of a dead-eyed, soul-bereft thug, lips locked in the position in which they left Trump's equally disturbing nether regions.
