Chaotic good archaeologist. Work-from-home enthusiast. Everyone’s history is important. Smaller class sizes. Prison is immoral. ACAB. Sorry for being so awkward.

they will tell you to be peaceful as they beat you to the ground
Horrendous. A man lying on the ground is repeatedly beaten by LA riot police, before one deliberately tramples him with horse.

These officers should face charges.

It’s also important to note that “white” as a category of people did not exist before the 17th century, and came into existence as a social construct largely as a way to justify why some people could be enslaved for life while others couldn’t.

bad actors like wurman are why i think it is important to place the birthright clause in the full context of section 1 and section 1 in the context of both dred scott and the two decades of antislavery and abolitionist agitation and political thinking that proceeded it

The Constitution is not a legal document as much as it is a social contract. The insistence that it is entirely the former has damaged our acceptance of the latter.
It's largely lost today because we've allowed constitutional law to become the exclusive preserve of lawyers, but the original idea of written constitutionalism was partly one of public education, publicity, & (proto-)democracy—people should be able to read & come to know the law which binds them

the birthright clause was not just written to wipe dred scott off of the books, it was written to repudiate the *idea* behind dred scott, you might say the larger *ideological project* of dred scott. and the whole of section 1 of the 14th amendment is a constitutional statement of political equality

Which is it man because you can’t say ‘be more normal’ back-to-back with ‘be less judgmental’ without a hint of irony because that’s just positioning yourself as cultural authority & then demanding the type of grace that by virtue of your immediately preceding statement you refuse to extend to us
California Governor Gavin Newsom said on Thursday that the Democratic Party needed to be “more culturally normal” and “less judgmental.”

Can't believe our tax dollars are going to be spent settling the upcoming exorbitant defamation suit with Sabrina Carpenter, but maybe this is just how public arts funding is going to work now.
Sabrina Carpenter ratioed the White House after it used her song in an ICE video.

The WH deleted the post…but now it’s back with a new ICE video, this time using an altered clip from Carpenter’s SNL monologue.
