Methane makes up 48% of NZ's climate pollution. The Govt's grossly irresponsible announcement today that they will never have a price on methane, combined with their policies to increase the dairy herd, means that they have zero intention of meeting NZ Paris obligations.

Yeah. Sadly, it won't be the people running Open AI, Microsoft or NVIDIA that take the hit. The crash is going to be big. The perpetrators and their uncritical media boosters should be held to account. With any luck the kiwisaver providers will be ahead of it.

When the money dries up, the data centres will be switched off. The current LLM AI industry will largely disappear. The breathless stories in the NZ media from earlier this year could do with an update & some questions for Judith Collins.

On a serious note, I was shocked at the state of NZ... and I realise this only scratches the surface. We hope this at least helps feels Kiwis feel seen 👀💗 (And if you liked it let us know, we might make a follow up ahead of your 2026 election)

Looks like a good time in the news cycle to tackle three big myths 🧵
❌ NZ pension costs are an unsustainable burden ❌
Seriously, no, for lots of reasons.
1. Our current Govt spending on pensions is low compared to most other advanced economies. And... [1/n]
Graph of public pension costs as % of GDP for OECD countries in 2021 (latest data). NZ is lower quartile at around 5.1%. OECD average is 7.8%. Plenty of Euro countries are around 10% or above.
