I once told an American pal that the RCMP horse parade officers get to keep the horse. But that’s also what the ceremonial retirement rifle was for, at the end.

The other Cdns immediately backed it up. “Yeah we just don’t talk about it because it’s like their own personal Artax moment”
From at least 8 years ago. As an Aussie, I’m pretty up with the lingo, and I’d never heard this phrase before this post. It was nearly universally adopted shortly thereafter because this post speaks absolute truth about Aussies.

Bikes “turn humans into this hyperefficient terrestrial locomotor because they make being on land more like swimming,”

Another way to describe the absolute joy of freewheeling down a hill on a bike!
Remember this one? “Humans aren’t very efficient movers—until you put us on a bicycle, when we become some of the most energy-efficient land travelers in the animal kingdom.” Proven science via Scientific American @sciam.bsky.social #CityMakingMath

Tolkien was onto something with dragon sickness. All of these billionaires have more than they could ever use, and yet constantly thirst for more. It very much is a sickness. They are broken people.
Tolkien also very much drew on the folkloric idea that a dragon’s ill-gotten hoard is a corrupting force above and beyond simple gold, even long after the dragon is dead and gone, and the healthiest response is to walk away from it, a conclusion no techbro can make about their own ill-gotten wealth.
Remember Erebor, the mountain where Smaug killed the dwarves and stole all their money? And then every nation in the world fought a bloody war to try to get their money back?

Techrbos named their new bank after it.

Men doing this whole “I will vanquish continents for my children” LARP is so goofy in the context of household surveys. It’s nice you’ll kill millions for your daughter, maybe we can start at doing a load of laundry for your wife who does the vast majority of household labor?

Sorry, I don't think you appreciate how profoundly f*cked it is to look up who has been chirping about buried American military nuclear waste in Canada and again see you're the only one. I'm not bragging, it's disturbing, crazy-making.
🇨🇦🤝🇺🇸 Is 2026 the year that a Canadian mainstream news outlet covers the nuclear waste the Americans buried at the former Goose Air Base, now CFB Goose Bay, and the Canadian Armed Forces won't talk about, out of fear they'll upset our dear neigbour? Stay tuned. ☢️

The Lord of The Rings movies were rated PG-13. By current rules that means that each film could contain one use of the word "Fuck". Which line are you altering to insert the most useful swear word?

JFC people I KNOW the post office has been forced to stop accepting govt money and be self supporting. The point is, IT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN. It should not be expected to turn a profit or break even! It is constitutionally a government service! You have not discovered a gotcha!! Stop snottily QTing!
It’s not “losing money” any more than air traffic controllers or public highways or street lights or fire departments are “losing money.” It is a government service. It’s not SUPPOSED to make money. It’s supposed to reliably deliver to anywhere in the US, even the unprofitable places.

The USPS faces a tight squeeze. With fewer people using the mail, it’s lost more and more money: $9 billion in the 12 months ending in September alone.
