NYT provides no evidence here, probably because the claim is flatly untrue. See eg recent Pew data, or many posts on the subject from @gelliottmorris.com this year

JFC people I KNOW the post office has been forced to stop accepting govt money and be self supporting. The point is, IT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN. It should not be expected to turn a profit or break even! It is constitutionally a government service! You have not discovered a gotcha!! Stop snottily QTing!
It’s not “losing money” any more than air traffic controllers or public highways or street lights or fire departments are “losing money.” It is a government service. It’s not SUPPOSED to make money. It’s supposed to reliably deliver to anywhere in the US, even the unprofitable places.

The USPS faces a tight squeeze. With fewer people using the mail, it’s lost more and more money: $9 billion in the 12 months ending in September alone.

Cuntery Afoot is the name of my social media tribute band
to be very honest: I believe that Lots of Aggressive Assholes is the inherent zen nature of public social media in 2025, and if you find this intolerable - which I totally understand - you should be hanging out in Discord and group chats instead.
While I believe being knee-jerk nasty to people on either side of AI discourse is dumb, you will not convince me AI proponents have seen *cruel and unusual* online pushback so far.

In that people online have been calling ME a knife-missile-baby-killer due to my work with civilian drones since 2013.

there used to be a place like this in the downtown eastside. the funding was cut and it closed. dignity isn’t a line item on a budget; it’s beyond any price
For an entire community of my down-and-out neighbors, this hygiene center is the only place to take a shower, wash clothes, repair a bike, or get a sweater, blanket, or hot meal…while also enjoying a little bit of community.

Listened to Brent on the latest urbanist agenda pod and really liked his "it's just geometry" argument about getting cars off of roads. This is a good visualisation of that:
What does it take to move 1000 people? Smart infrastructure supporting choices that don’t take up so much space (or produce so much emissions/pollution, cost so much public money etc).

Mobility in cities is about space.

The show doesn’t even come close to depicting the actual existence of homophobia in and around hockey - be it pro hockey, juniors, or youth hockey - and the “movement” of people who enjoy a TV show where hot hockey players kiss has not suddenly fixed this.

children

are

not

property
... if you think you *own* your kids, then the state is preventing those meddling medical professionals from "interfering" with your parenting with their 'science' and 'evidence'.

A complete inversion of how most of us see the world, and it only works by thinking of children as property, not people

A reminder for when you're out in the cold doing your Christmas shopping, Starbucks is an anti-worker union-busting company. Get your coffee or hot chocolate elsewhere.
BREAKING: Police have been called on striking Starbucks baristas who were peacefully protesting, both in PA and NV.

It seems Starbucks would rather see their own workers arrested rather than listen to their concerns in good-faith.

Shame on Starbucks!

UNINTERRUPTED CYCLING NETWORK.

In most cities, cycling involves a constant cycle of stop-and-go. You hit a red light, you wait for a turning truck, you yield to pedestrians. It kills the momentum.

Here in Oulu, the experience is completely different. Here’s why👇 1/3

I’d ride my bike more often if I wasn’t concerned it would be dismantled to parts anywhere I left it outside

low-tier property crime is too abundant in my city
I'd like to ride my bike more often and wish it felt safer.

"According to the new study, bike production has ballooned over the last 60 years. 123 million bikes were produced in 2015 - up from 20.7 million bikes in 1962."
“Dutch people cycle an average of 2.6km each per day. If this pattern was replicated worldwide, annual carbon emissions would drop by 686 million tonnes.

This mammoth figure exceeds the entire carbon footprint of most countries, including the UK, Canada, Saudi Arabia and Australia.” @euronews.com

Independence Day on opening night

the theatre sound was so rich and booming
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.
