The police assassination of Tortuguita was an important recent precedent for the out of control fascist assault on human rights happening in the US today.
Three years ago today, Georgia state police murdered Tortuguita as part of their drive to destroy the Weelaunee Forest and build a deadly police militarization center.

Tort fought for a world without police and capitalism, and so should we. Viva, viva Tortuguita.

Top leader of official opposition party under a fascist government doesn't think fighting fascism is an important issue, and/or doesn't have a clue how to campaign on fighting fascism. Disgraceful.
NEW: In this interview, Chuck Schumer describes the "five buckets" Dems think are key to their possibly winning a Senate majority in 2026: housing, "the high price of food [and] food monopolies playing a major role there," electricity, "the high cost of childcare," and health care.
Zero Chucks Left to Give
Chuck Schumer now sees a path back to the majority. Can he manage his way through it?

The US government arrests people with no justification, offers no apology for the unjustified arrest (let alone provide any compensation), and lies about it to cover up their mistake.
ICE ended up returning the man, Saly, after realizing he’s a fucking US citizen with no criminal record, per his sister-in-law. These fucking animals.

This is misguided policy with bipartisan support. If data centers continue to proliferate, and more fracked gas burning power plants are added to the grid, any attempts to keep utility bills from rising will fail.

The last time the U.S. tried to take over other countries — Iraq and Afghanistan — it cost trillions of dollars, thousands of American lives, and potentially millions of lives abroad.

We can't afford those costs again. IPS scholar @lindsaykosh.bsky.social in @inthesetimes.com:
End Military Action in Venezuela and Help Working Class Americans
Healthcare costs are doubling, food prices are rising and the safety net is shredded. So why are we launching an illegal war to profit oil companies?

This polling shows that A MAJORITY OF LIBERAL DEMOCRATS WILL NOT VOTE FOR SOMEONE WHO SUPPORTS THE EXPANSION OF FOSSIL FUELS, while a majority of mod Dems and Rs—as well as far right Rs—do not care enough for anti-fossil-fuel to be a decisive factor in their vote.

Do you know what this means?

A friend mentioned that two of the “least political” people he knows brought up ICE to him in recent days. How we respond in those moments matters. When we meet people where they are with empathy and encouragement, as my friend did, we often gain allies.

Another big institution that is violating its own rules and bending over backwards to appease fascists, while regular folks take huge risks to fight back.
NEW: GoFundMe's rules forbid fundraisers tied to legal funds for violent crimes. One for the ICE agent who killed Renee Good, currently nearing $500K, changed the language in its description after @wired.com reached out (but not in the images at the top of the page, oops) @dell.bsky.social reports:

Goes to show that the "sensible moderate" position has always been at best delusional, and more likely an intentional bad-faith grift.
But the ‘sensible moderates’ said those who argued ICE and anti-migrant efforts like it were ushering in a re-animated fascism we’re being alarmist and unserious.

Every official in the US government, from the President down to the ICE terrorist who pulled the trigger, is guilty of murder, of knowingly covering it up, and of slandering the person they murdered. Shame on this country if they get away with this.
