The police assassination of Tortuguita was an important recent precedent for the out of control fascist assault on human rights happening in the US today.
Three years ago today, Georgia state police murdered Tortuguita as part of their drive to destroy the Weelaunee Forest and build a deadly police militarization center.

The US government arrests people with no justification, offers no apology for the unjustified arrest (let alone provide any compensation), and lies about it to cover up their mistake.
ICE ended up returning the man, Saly, after realizing he’s a fucking US citizen with no criminal record, per his sister-in-law. These fucking animals.

This is misguided policy with bipartisan support. If data centers continue to proliferate, and more fracked gas burning power plants are added to the grid, any attempts to keep utility bills from rising will fail.

A friend mentioned that two of the “least political” people he knows brought up ICE to him in recent days. How we respond in those moments matters. When we meet people where they are with empathy and encouragement, as my friend did, we often gain allies.

But the ‘sensible moderates’ said those who argued ICE and anti-migrant efforts like it were ushering in a re-animated fascism we’re being alarmist and unserious.
