I think what's particularly interesting about it is that it's coming at a time when the general mood in China is much sourer than before 2020, and the economy - while very marginally improving - a long way from the miracle years.
I found this fascinating, especially because Cdramas are having a surge in popularity. I've been spending a lot of time on Chinese social media recently and I can say that this is most definitely an idealized view of China 😆 but then the world had an idealized view of the US for decades.

Ryder is a friend of mine who is a passionate progressive urbanist running against a field of NIMBYs.

the only way we can make progress in Albany is if we elect people like him to push back against the Long Island conservatives

strongly recommend supporting him if you are in NYC!

My daughter's school in Richfield, MN (adjacent to Minneapolis) is closing tomorrow due of out-of-control federal agents. Fourth graders spent the week building walls of snow at recess to protect their classmates from ICE. This isn't about immigration enforcement, it's about terror.

Zohran Mamdani’s mayoralty is the final nail in the coffin of left-NIMBYism.

progressive pro-housing politics is the future
You probably don't know what SEQRA is - but you should know that it's slowing down the housing that we need. Deputy Mayor Leila Bozorg is here to explain why reforming it is key to cutting red tape and building more housing.

this is all to say that should democrats win the house and senate this november, they should hold similarly dramatic — which is to say televised and highly publicized — hearings on the conduct of ICE and CBP, with testimony from victims. we want as much of *this* as possible in the record. (3/?)
ICE detained Arlit Maria Martinez on her way to work. 2 days later, her 15 yo son died of cancer. They wouldn't let her out to say goodbye. The family had planned to move back to Mexico prior to the cancer diagnosis but stayed for his treatment. Now, Mr Martinez has lost his wife to ICE & his son.
Teen dies of cancer days after mother arrested by ICE: ‘She’s never gonna see him’
The mother's family pleaded with federal officers for her release from custody to say her final goodbyes to her son, but their requests went unanswered.

She dismantled her era’s version of ICE.🧵

This is the sort of statement that was expected from every university president and law firm partner over the last year. That those statements weren’t made played a huge part in where we are now and people will remember.
Jerome Powell: "This is about whether the Fed will be able to continue to set interest rates based on evidence and economic conditions—or whether instead monetary policy will be directed by political pressure or intimidation."
