I'll get back to "party unity" as soon as the Senate Minority Leader tells us if he voted for the Democratic party nominee for mayor of his city.

I'm tired of party unity only ever running one way.

I have been boycotting Barilla for over a decade because of its owner's anti-queer views
Incidentally, Barilla’s owner is a big Trump supporter and has said he doesn’t want gay people buying his pasta.

Democrats just swept the off-year elections -- and not just in blue states -- a resounding rejection of Republicans' authoritarian bullshit. It is an insult to Democratic voters, marketplace enrollees, and everyone who turned out on Tuesday for Schumer and Jeffries to cave.
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

I understand this argument but I disagree: being precise about who is doing this stuff matters, especially since we will eventually have to determine what to do in the future if reform becomes possible.

I somewhat agree with you about political messaging, but that’s not what I’m trying to do.
It's fine and good to note that CBP is extra bad, but from a political messaging point of view, ICE is the way people identify the larger group and being Technically Correct is often just bad political messaging. It's ICE to the public. They're all on the same Gestapo mission.
Not ICE. Border Patrol. They’re wearing Border Patrol uniforms with clear Border Patrol patches on them.

There are many videos of ICE officers doing outrageous stuff but a lot of the absolute worst videos are of Border Patrol, who are basically Bovino and Miller’s most aggressive tool right now.

Actually, being accurate and honest in lieu of being misleading for effect is *in itself* a manifestation of politics and political priorities and if you’re willing to dismiss accuracy in favor of persuasion you’re ceding ground to the fascists.

There is something really wrong with people who need workers to be not just competent, but slavishly fake-happy. "Slavishly" used on purpose, bc that's where this grotesquerie comes from.
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.

They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.

If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."

🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.
Target is now requiring its employees to smile more
As the holiday season fast approaches, Target is urging its employees to add a little more “jolly” to their work routine.

The ability to convince capital markets to hand you a trillion dollars on the strength of obvious bullshit paired with the inability to get a single human to sincerely and spontaneously say they love you is some real punishment of the gods shit.

If you want something with a random element to help inspire ideas or think through your feelings, tarot can work really well for that. Added bonus: you'll be emotional connecting with and responding to art made by actual human beings, and usually women. Don't ask ChatGPT, ask Pamela Coleman Smith!
I always come back to how insulting the idea is that I need a plagiarism chatbot to help me “organize my thoughts” and “come up with ideas,” something I am perfectly capable of doing myself and never asked for any help with

ICE agents in Chicago violently detain a non verbal autistic man for being “non compliant”

He couldn’t “comply” because of his disability…they don’t care

This is not the first time they’ve gone after a disabled person

They target the most vulnerable because it’s an easy way to meet their quota

Feminists have long been scared of looking mean, and as a result we’ve been way too nice to antifeminist women. Sorry no, you’re not submissive, servile, and dependent because you’re a woman and that’s just your feminine nature. You’re submissive, servile, and dependent because you lack self respect.

ryan is right. people HATE hearing this. but it is just a matter of simple incentives. if you want a more representative legislature — and if you want a legislature more resistant to corruption — then you need to jack up the salaries. serving as mayor of NYC should net you a cool 500K *at least*
people hate hearing this but it's 100% true, creating a huge pay gap between political leaders, their staffs, and other elites is a recipe for corruption. of course the flip side of that is taxes on the rich should be jacked way the hell up
The Mayor of New York only makes $260k. I bet there are police that make more than that in NY with overtime.

We need to pay elected leaders more money and stop pretending it's some sort of calling. They're managing hundreds of billions of dollars in investments and millions of people's lives.

One thing the NYC mayoral race underscored for me is how easily the phrase "I don't feel safe" can be weaponized. It's an argument I would hesitate ever to use again, even for a good cause. I hope we can all agree that we have the right to BE safe. Maybe we should leave it at that.
