This is disgusting.
An astonishing figure in this piece:

Last year, the U.S. budgeted $12.8B for new affordable housing.

This country is now poised to spend $45B on immigrant detention centers.

That's nearly *four times* as much on cages as on homes—in the middle of a devastating housing and homelessness crisis.
Are We About to Have Labor Camps in the United States of America?
If you think that’s far-fetched, then you really haven’t been paying attention to what the Trump administration and Republicans in Congress have been up to lately.

HASSAN: What is habeas corpus?

NOEM: Habeas corpus is a constitutional right that the president has to be able to remove people from this country

HASSAN: That's incorrect

It's remarkable how much of this administration's agenda has been laser focused on simply making life worse for ordinary Americans.

Trump taking a luxury jet from a foreign government isn’t just illegal—it’s a reminder that no one’s ever corrupted the presidency like he has.

Everything he does is for himself, not for YOU.

Donald Trump is about to accept a gift of a jet from Qatar. This is a gift to him personally. He wants to transfer the jet to his presidential "library" - meaning to his personal use and that of his heirs. More analysis of Trump corruption here www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpU2...

One key aspect of the immigration crackdown is that it’s seemingly based on lies. There wasn’t a “migrant crime wave,” Biden didn’t allow 20M undocumented into the country, etc. But has anybody published an accurate assessment of immigration under Biden?

I found this:

Biden's Plan to End the Border Crisis Is Already Working
The border is still a mess, but the president’s recent immigration actions have already produced meaningful results.

Again: there's no evidence Trump understands what a trade deficit is. He consistently describes it as "a subsidy" to foreign countries, as them "ripping us off."

He similarly doesn't understand those goods & services can't be replicated in the US at the same cost. Some can't be replicated at all.
I cannot emphasize enough how alarming it is the president does not understand how bad these supply chain shortages will hurt the overall US economy for the short and long-term as a result of his economic policies and his administration's approach to international trade.
REPORTER: But we're seeing as a result that ports here in the US, the traffic has really slowed and now thousands of dockworkers are truck drivers are worried about their jobs

TRUMP: That means we lose less money ... when you say it slowed down, that's a good thing, not a bad thing

The Alcatraz thing is a perfect illustration of Trump’s addiction to controversy and drama. He just constantly needs to invent new things to yell about.
May 5, 2025 at 12:23 AM
This. Of course he’s just spouting nonsense, but even so…
It would take billions to reopen Alcatraz as a working prison, while destroying one of the Bay Area's top tourist attractions.
Trump says he’s ordered DOJ and DHS to reopen and expand Alcatraz.
May 5, 2025 at 12:26 AM
He’s a racist to the core.
seems like trump mainly uses “low IQ” to describe black people. of a piece with his birtherism and his insistence that there are specific, low-wage “black jobs” that must be protected from immigrants
I listened to President Trump call Rep. Jasmine Crockett a "low IQ individual" and I realized I had heard that before, so put the question to ChatGPT.

OMG, his stupidity knows no bounds!
Trump: "We were losing hundreds of billions of dollars with China. Now we're essentially not doing business with China. Therefore, we're saving hundreds of billions of dollars. It's very simple."

Racism is when you believe a white guy is innocent after a jury has concluded 34 times that he isn’t, and you immediately decide an immigrant is guilty when the immigrant hasn’t even had a chance to present their defense.

Imagine pretending random people you'll never meet are somehow victimizing you with their existence.

Imagine being that hard up for troubles that you have to invent them just so you can play the victim.

In 2025, "When they go low, we go high!" is the equivalent of taking a big swig of whiskey to "get rid" of the flu. It's no longer relevant.

Different time. Different strategy. We adapt to the time or perish, holding on to nostalgia.

TBH scariest possibility here might be that he actually believes it. This is simply not going to happen, not even close.

If he's blustering like usual and retreats, some damage can be undone.

If he believes it, we're trapped on this difficult course until he realizes he was wrong. If he ever does.
