“A coup is happening in the United States.”

Jason Stanley, author of How Fascism Works, argues that President Donald Trump is leading an unlawful takeover of the US government.
I study fascism. I’ve already fled America.
On this week’s “More To The Story,” former Yale philosophy professor Jason Stanley explains his recent move to Canada and calls the Trump administration’s takeover of the US government a “coup.”

Shit like this is why they'll lose, in the long run. It's just a question of how many of us survive their defeat.

I'm hearing about this in a few states. My big question is whether it is preparation for a crackdown on resistance to ICE operations, or a preemptive crackdown on anti war protesters after the planned invasion of Greenland
my friend is a postal worker in minneapolis and they all got letters at work today to show to police to prove they are essential workers authorized to be out. i guess we're to the "papers please" era now officially.

fuck these people
if you want to know what it is like in minneapolis, I don’t even have to scroll on facebook to find a horror story. it’s basically my whole feed.

everyone i know in minneapolis is seeing ICE take people—at gas stations, taquerias, bus stops, schools. just snatching random people.

ok but they won't

ICE officers won't follow orders they don't ideologically like

And elected Dems have not yet shown evidence of any spine to do what is necessary: punish these people.

It's best to leave your phone at home while protesting. If you have to bring one, a burner phone with a pass code (NOT biometric or face ID) & secure messaging is important. To avoid tracking, keep your phone in a Faraday bag or wrapped in multiple layers of foil. Test the signal beforehand!

of course an ICE agent shooting a woman didn't "take the bait", that's a tragedy we have to Wait For The System to handle. did you hear someone broke a window? Scandalous.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey says 29 people were arrested in downtown last night during a noise demonstration at a hotel reportedly housing ICE agents: "For those that are taking the bait and causing property damage or otherwise, there are consequences. We're holding the line here all the way."

there is no positive route forward for the United States without mass arrests and trials for DHS employees
You and your wife drop your 6-year-old off at school. You just moved here. You see ICE terrorizing your new neighbors. You film them, as is your legal right. Your wife complies with orders. She is then shot in the head. You still have to pick up your child later today.

This could be you.

It’s hard to overstate how bad the NIH indirect costs cap will be for universities.

The only explanation for this at the governmental level is weapons grade incompetence or a very potent evil.

Wondering how the potential death of the research university isn’t front page news…?
