This is what people used to joke that Keith Richards did
I don't even know how to joke about this

one of the reasons the Muppets are great is because they allow adults to engage in one of the joys of childhood; pretending something is alive and real when you know it isn't. Kermit and Miss Piggy are everyone's favorite toys.

state power and orders are also well-documented, which eliminates both of my primary objections to the death penalty, actually, now that i think about it
one view of mind that has changed is that, while i remain strongly opposed to capital punishment in most cases, i'm basically agnostic on it now when it comes to people exercising state power and authority in ways like this
One of the dilemmas of living through the second Trump administration is that saying these things out loud seems crazy. But yeah, the death penalty is an established, well-documented thing we have on the books for precisely these kinds of crimes; they obviously did it; and it's not hard to prove.

vought is a psychotic fanatic whose malevolence planned for project 2025 with no 2026 or 2028, the whole plan's success and longevity both depend on the idea that there's no thermostatic reaction and that americans find the outcomes of it appealing. that's the idea of a fanatic, not a planner

part of the reason i've got such contempt for the doomerism around "they don't think they'll have to win an election again" is that this belief — which i agree some of them hold — critically endangers the entire project, it doesn't strengthen it. they are incapable of shifting strategy or pivoting.
it is actually a major fucking political problem for this administration that they have key decision makers who believe the GOP will never have to win a fair election again

it doesn't even work this way for pragmatists, most of the time! an irony here is that vought, miller and everyone else in this administration are making some of the exact same mistakes the biden administration made, for, like, wario-related reasons
Ideologues be like "my ideology produces good outcomes! People will see the work we've done and be prosperous and happy!" and it usually does not work out like that.

Instead of paying for music you don't actually own while Spotify surveils you and funds AI warfare, you can buy downloads from e.g., Bandcamp, or if it's not on there, I've found Qobuz (www.qobuz.com/us-en/shop) works. At the very least, artists get better paid and you aren't as surveilled.

i think people have mostly, finally gotten over the fear that trump's going to deploy DHS troops out to every city in america, what people need to internalize next is that they will not have the money to sustain even their *current* operations within a year and a half

why do they always act surprised that a woman would be smart

these are invariably always the same guys who don’t get my jokes bc they assume women are too stupid to be able to make jokes

USPS subsidizes a *lot* of shipping in the united states and characterizing it in terms of profit and loss is fundamentally a bad faith exercise given how many of it’s benefits are truly universal in a way that not all federal agencies are

i am going to be equally honest, the USPS accounts for less than a single percentage point of federal spending despite being one of the most complex and sophisticated logistical agencies in the world, this is a crank hobby horse

What I wish is when people saw these news articles they would fight harder for digital privacy. Companies can already do basically what Grok is doing just by data mining you. FB knows everything about you (and is selling you off to the highest bidder) even if you don't have an account.

Holy shit. And a good reminder that LLMs are not confidential! Everything put into it can be extracted and indicidualized, both in terms of who put it in and what results it spits out.
NEW: Elon Musk's Grok chatbot will, with minimal prompting, provide residential addresses of everyday Americans.

Prompts as simple as "[name] address" immediately returned accurate home addresses of private citizens — alongside other personal info we didn't ask for.

Omg, such a loss. One of the great faces of the 90s, a stalwart character actor who could teeter on both sides of the line for Asian American roles in an industry thay made it hard for him to avoid stereotype. Loved him in Mortal Kombat, Last Emperor, Man in the High Castle, Licence to Kill.
