My favorite Wilbur Wood stat:
12-10, 25 GS, 192.7 IP (7.7 IP/GS), 2.62 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, .629 OPS allowed
That's his record in 1972 *on fewer than three days of rest*

So when I said "I'll be cool with anyone who didn't work with Sirianni and Frank Reich on the Chargers 10 years ago" I did not mean I wanted to keep sharing an offensive coaching staff with the Colts

This week's Wheelysports is coming out a few days early because I'm traveling this week, but good news, Noemi Rüegg gave me plenty to write about

Even today, there will be no greater reminder of the imminence of my death than watching Shaqueel van Persie score on an overhead kick in the Rotterdam derby

It's downstream of "It's impossible for someone to have done both good and bad things. You have to pick one and argue about it forever."
I think this website’s understanding of politics would be better if people could differentiate between coalition members, allies, and friends, because everyone sure seems to like talking past each other because they’re conflating one with the other

Last climb about to start!
My #analysis: Tonight is gonna be a pretty boring stage with a very picturesque sprint finish. Sunday night, however, is gonna be a double ascent of Corkscrew Road with the GC on the line. Noemi Ruëgg defending her title, with new world champ Magdeleine Vallieres as her wingman. Dynamite stuff.

One consolation to the Eagles being out of the playoffs is I had a free three hours today to finally watch One Battle After Another.

Terrific. I'm gonna win an Oscar for cinematography.

what a workhorse. led the league in appearance three years in a row (88, 76, 77 games from 1968-70), then had a 5-year run (1971-75) averaging 45 starts and 336⅓ innings

4 complete games (38 IP) in a 10-day stretch in 1972, a season he started 49 games
RIP Wilbur Wood, 84, a Chicago White Sox workhorse in the 1970s and arguably the best left-handed knuckleballer in major league history. Read his SABR bio: sabr.org/bioproj/pers...

When I was working at the college paper I covered one South Carolina men's basketball game. It was against Jacksonville State, the only other Gamecocks in Division I. That column was, to this day, one of my greatest professional challenges
watching a college basketball game between Temple and Florida Atlantic

both teams are wearing red and white

both teams are named the Owls

the Temple court has an owl on it

Florida Atlantic’s uniforms just say “Owls” on them

i have never been more confused in my entire life

the way to tell whether a person is credible is by *listening to what they say* and checking it against verifiable facts. The idea that you can bypass this with some value-neutral procedure is asinine if you think about it for two seconds and also the guiding ideology of 99% of American elites.

It's not hard to defend. How many franchise action movies this century were better and more interesting than Smokin' Aces?
One of the harder to defend movie opinions I have is that Joe Carnahan is Onto Something, and while he's not made many movies that are good all the way through we'd be better off with more distinctive/overstated genre filmmakers like him. That said, The Rip is 133 minutes and I'm not a young man.
