Woke up from a Thanksgiving nap and instead of finishing my Witkoff thread I am phoneposting from memory about Fomenko’s New Chronology while watching Panahi’s No Bears. There are quite a few “When The Clock Broke” type books about post 91’ Russia people should read instead of Naomi Klein slop.

I did the research as a favour for @boundedrationality.bsky.social and I'll let him post it when he pleases, but for the record, TL;DR, the Witkoff family, originally Witkiewicz, immigrated in stages to the US beginning in 1910, from their ancestral villages between Łomża & Suwałki. “Russian” indeed

A lot of people imagine Ukraine to be covered in Bandera statues everywhere and then your friend sends you a photo of a street in their Kyiv neighborhood that just got hit for the 5th time named for a Stalin Prize winning poet who was Chairmen of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR in the 50s.

They also want Russian aggression to succeed. Look at how fast all of them ran to give intellectual cover for the “peace plan” and claim victory. Misguided is too charitable of a word to use this far into 2025.
The fascist right will never drop its anti-Ukraine stance, because they want to see Russian aggression succeed.
But can the smaller yet quite vocal anti-anti-Russia left—Chomsky, Quincy Institute, Lula, etc—finally admit that blaming the war on the US and “they won’t even negotiate” were misguided?

A lot of pro-Ukrainians have forgotten Zelenskyy rejected comparisons to Churchil on account of the imperialism. I'm frustrated with the guy as much as anyone but I always appreciated him saying that.
