This is our operational definition of political strength: making decisions based on core values and principles, explaining choices with clear and persuasive arguments, drawing a contrast with one’s opponents, and making it clear why your approach is the better one. Dems could choose this.

The right and Republicans understand this. The broader left, center, and Democrats could. Today we are releasing Towards Strength, a summary of a year of research into the losses of 2024, chronic Democratic underperformance, and what voters are thinking as we head into 2026.
A New Report Reveals the Real Reason Democrats Lost in 2024
It wasn’t because Biden voters shifted to Trump—but because so many of them stayed home. Here’s how Democrats can motivate them once more.

The politics we have as Americans ultimately is up to us. We can choose for our democracy to be a dreary march to the drab center or running over groups of people with a metaphorical bus. Or we can choose an imagination battle that realigns the center so we can fight and build on favorable terrain.

One major takeaway: Winsome Earle-Sears tried relentlessly to attack Abigail Spanberger with the same transphobic messaging Trump used against Kamala Harris.... and people just didn't care. It shows anti-trans messaging isn't an inflection point.

Interesting to think that this is the kind of polling that James Carville was looking at the last time he won an election 🤷‍♂️
Looking how politicians and advisors have categorized voter groups in old political polls can be jarring to say the least. From 1990, these "status groups" are bizarre, not to mention bigoted.

Of course people get it. And if they don’t, you don’t stop saying it. You say it until they do. #FightTheOligarchy 🇺🇸

The only way forward is for us to take direct action.

I love to call my Senators' offices three times per week and try to cajole them into doing the most elementary political messaging and strategy. This is what it means to be an engaged citizen: leaving a strenuously polite voicemail for a 74yo on a more regular cadence than I talk to my parents.

19-20 months from now, Trump will have pushed the economy off a cliff and left the civil service a smouldering husk. If you're a Democratic elected and you think a government shutdown from a CR fight is gonna be the thing voters remember, you need your fucking head examined.
