Think about what it was like when you were five.

How anxious you felt starting a new school.

How scared you could get all alone in your room at night.

Now imagine that child you were 1000s miles from home in a prison guarded by Neo-Nazis.

Then call your reps and tell them to #AbolishICE.
Reminder that, as of the latest reports, Liam Ramos is still in prison in Texas - now for 5 days.

His parents are legal asylum seekers with no criminal record.

I wonder if it has occurred to anyone at the Atlantic in this moment, that perhaps spending the past decade creating false equivalency between the avowed fascist movement on the right, and the college kids protesting fascists on college campuses was a mistake?

I’ve never heard of a “law enforcement” agency putting an officer who just killed someone back on the street under 24 hours. And that’s because all shootings are treated as homicides pending investigation. This is as clear a sign as you’ll get that DHS personnel enjoy practical immunity from murder.
CBP chief Bovino has confirmed that the officers who executed Alex Pretti in the street yesterday are not only *not on administrative leave,* they have all been reassigned to other jurisdictions and are all on the street today.

This is totally unheard of for any officer-involved shooting

every few years since the cold war ended, america is convulsed with civil disobedience on a national scale. in contrast to previous such events, 2020 saw relatively colorblind rioting over shared collective grievances with the status quo. and now the politicians are all squarely against the people
there will be a sea change, in the way americans approach politics, when they pick up on the notion that in Minneapolis, *ordinary people* are deciding the work of preserving society, they are building the institutions, they are directing the resources and their *own* labor. this is lawful rebellion
One thing that irks me: people keep calling the folks on the streets in Minneapolis protestors. They are not generally there to protest, they are there to observe and document. This is the product of organizing and mutual aid. It is telling that these acts of citizenship are seen as protest!

All three living Democratic presidents have said nothing about any of this. I don’t mean just today, I mean any of it. Obama’s last two tweets are about basketball and wishing his wife happy birthday. Nothing on Renee Good who was murdered 17 days ago

The point is not "told you so" but to recognize how your reactions are shaped by racial narratives and normalization, and you can take this opportunity to overcome and denaturalize that hardness and cruelty within yourself, to deconstruct the whiteness that makes you defend the indefensible

the actual analysis should begin with the clearly documented fact that the US federal government is executing peaceful citizens on the street, in plain view — and then blatantly lying to cover it up

anything less isn't journalism

People from outside Ireland occasionally ask me, "Why is Bono, an international music titan from Ireland, not all that loved in Ireland?". The answer in its entirety is a complex one, but "He sent Dolly Parton a birthday cake and put his own name on it" goes a long way to summing it up.

When we said NATO wasn't working we were derided.

When we said a nuclear weapons system relying on the US is dangerous we were called stupid.

The truth is the establishment are more interested in kissing US feet than keeping the UK safe.

It's time for a rethink.
