IGN is paying attention to censorship again. Use their momentum, call visa and mastercard, tell them you read the article, ask them why they're censoring legal stuff

reminder that you don't need to know specifics of what's at play. It's often better to sound like a normie

Libraries are free for you to use, serve the public good, are great, support creators financially and, I cannot be clear enough about this-- ARE FREE FOR YOU TO USE-- so pirating books makes you kind of an asshole, not some Marxist revolutionary.

If the book you want isn't there *request it.*

Come and learn about how the tropes undergirding anti-Jewish hatred and conspiracy theories as they exist today came to be…

Gotta get the history to know where the tropes live in the discourse today.

I have said before and will say again that it is such a loss that we no longer get covers of this caliber for fantasy books.

This art is by Jean-Léon Huens. These covers are for the Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander. They lit my imagination on fire as a kid.

If you like an author's work, the best thing you can do is buy it. The second best thing you can do is ask your local library to buy it. Or, do both!
A reminder that the median book deal for a debut author in the UK is £7000, paid over 12-18 months. (from 2022 Society of Authors report). Some of your favourite writers are struggling. societyofauthors.org/2022/12/06/a....

DON'T FORGET The Payment Processor calling campaign is still going. Even if you can only do it once a week, do try.
Spoke to my source familiar with internal workings at Mastercard. The holiday call campaign re payment processor censorship is working, there is a lot of pressure being felt from your calls. This is resulting in increased response times at a core moment for Mastercard due to the holiday season

A statement that can be made of almost any 100-page sample of Blood Meridian, but ESPECIALLY those last 100 pages. The book is Great, in the most Terrible way possible.

Might be due a reread.
Read the last 100 pages of BLOOD MERIDIAN. Pretty sure I won't be sleeping tonight.

"Tyranny requires constant effort."
Seeing how much of the right-wing on Twitter is just bot farms, kinda lays bare how much hate and hatred is a project that needs to be constantly maintained, a fire that needs to be fed all the time lest it go out for a moment, so much time, effort, and resources to keep people angry and hateful.

I’ve been swiftly souring on Wicked: For Good after leaving it at mostly “It’s fine” yesterday, so this was a cathartic review to read.
“Wicked: For Good” is abysmal. Sloppily made, cultishly adherent to other works, and completely lacking in soul or energy—or a grasp on its own politics. Somehow worse than the first film, and without the depth of performance that made it tolerable. joysauce.com/jon-m-chus-w...

Been continuing my Laika: Aged Through Blood play through, and moments where Laika checks through the radio that her daughter’s had lunch or to find out what she wants for dinner is telling me we need more moms as video game protagonists. These moments are lovely.

My biggest feeling after Wicked: for Good is that the next Oz project needs to be a straight adaptation. Not “Oz but Gritty Drama” or “Oz but Sci-Fi” or “Oz but the Villain’s the Real Hero”. Just Oz. Any of the Oz. With fun, and charm.

You know, if there has to be a “next Oz project” at all.
