But to the point you're making (and I agree) people who are using Semenyo turning us down as a way of arguing higher wages won't help us attract top talent, this is like saying because it's been brutally cold the last week in the eastern US that global warming isn't real.

There is absolutely a correlation between wages and League standing over time. Pay high wages, attract better talent, win more games, finish higher in the table.

That's not entirely true. Chelsea didn't have a problem recruiting players when they finished 13th a few years back. United still nabbed some good players last summer.
