This cross-pollination IS how new ideas happen. EVERY field needs humanistic thinking, that's why they call PhDs "Doctors of Philosophy"

Can animated works aimed at adults please stop doing this silly, adolescent thing where they lard the dialogue with absurd supra-Scorcese levels of pointless swearing the modal longshoreman would find cringy in a desperate attempt to telegraph “this isn’t a kids cartoon!”

This is a good book that made me angry several times (complimentary) at how good it was. And as it's Jared's birthday today, you have zero excuses.
today’s a good day to get the book people are calling “kaleidoscopic,” “lovingly queer,” “brutal & bloodthirsty,” “fascinating,” “dangerous,” “whimsical,” “deeply strange and cannibalistic”, and one of the best fantasy novels of 2024
The West Passage a book by Jared Pechaček

'Sleeping Beauty' flopped in 1959, leading to cutbacks of the animation department in favor of theme parks, to make animation production faster/cheaper. Much of the women were the Ink & Department, yes, but getting rid of women were not why the cuts were made.

Please stop spreading misinfo, thanks.
the reason 101 dalmations looks like that is because disney incorporated xerography (ie early photocopying technology) into the animation process. rough pencils (by mostly male animators) were copied onto the cels so that disney could fire the (mostly female) inkers. remember that art can lie to you

my middle (cat) child is at the fancy oral surgeon today getting his entire bottom jaw's worth of teeth extracted because it turns out cat bodies will just sometimes break down their teeth and reabsorb them! that's just a thing that happens!

A rare interview with the creators of the always-funny, always-brilliant, and *usually*-sexy—or occasionally anti-sexy—OGLAF!

Cooper has kept a low profile over the years, but is legitimately one of the very best artists in comics today. Read OGLAF if you're old enough to drive!

Other than some time off every year for Christmas, Trudy Cooper and Doug Bayne have delivered a new Oglaf comic, skewering fantasy tropes with absolutely not safe for work humor, every week since 2008...

The truly maddening thing is that, unlike when I was a young man in science and the materials and engineering just weren’t there yet, the future is *right there.* The problem is *solved*. What’s holding us back is not just greed, but this bizarre nostalgia, an obsession with petro- masculinity.
