RAM shortage so severe that I reduced my full-throated explanation as to why I, as a grown-ass man, ate an entire half gallon of ice cream for dinner (complete with diagrams and amicus briefs) to "I'm sorry. Won't do it again."

RAM shortage so severe that while there were still clear skies in Tasman, they’ve had to reduce the frame rate to Monday speeds on a Wednesday to cut down the rendering load on distant mountains
RAM shortage so severe there was serious fog in TUCSON, ARIZONA this morning to cut down on rendering load for distant mountains

Eliminating all of your customers by trying to automate all jobs sounds like shooting yourself in the foot, unless the plan is to criminalize all forms of unemployment and homelessness, explode prison slave labor, and return society to oligarchical serfdom. Which is what it kind of feels like.

The first few decades of the internet have been “you’re the product“ and now we’re also the problem. They are forcing us to buy the medicine that will cure them of us.

Since the the note of "there were a lot of yeah-buts...", I've focused more on having a pov and focusing in. Have an emotion, react honestly. Don't "move the story", stay "with the thing."

The difference is amazing. I'm still not good, but we're fun. There are breakthroughs.

Excellent summary. I don't hate a.i., but there are valid concerns that "just wait, it will get better" don't fix.
Not quoting because they have enough dunks on them but this strawman has taken root among some people, so: no, actually, that particular position is not predominant.

This framing conflates three distinct "anti-AI" views that sometimes overlap: financial bubble, overhyped, and societal harm.

Maybe more accurate to say people should learn what questions to ask. What is a.i. & what is simple algorithm? Why are data models more credible than LLMs? What are trade-offs? There will be benefits. Energy on hype is exhausting. Narrowing the field makes us more receptive to things to come.
I understand why people are exhausted by AI hype, and why those of us squarely in the corner of "human dignity uber alles" see AI doomerism as self-serving hype, but I *really* think people on the left broadly need to start thinking seriously about the possibiltiy of the hype being...true.

For all the dunking on this guy (deserved) he still seems more stable than, say, Pete Hegseth or Elon Musk.
So a Norwegian biathlete cheated on his girlfriend at the Olympics (many such cases) and then told her about it on the phone (fair play) she dumped him (which I respect) and he then gave an interview where he told the whole world about everything in an attempt to do penance or something
What happened? WHAT DID I MISS? Sounds interesting.....

Poll observer here. A thing *everyone* can do is teach first time and rare voters where their polling places are. Early voting places usually accept voters from many precincts, but that's NOT TRUE on election day. Students are often turned away bc they went to the wrong place on election day
anyway i know how many of you hate that i’m so vocal about this and think it makes me a naive shitlib or whatever. but again, i think the best thing you could do for yourself here is to get involved in election administration where you live.
