Sad to hear that quintessential actor Jack Shepherd has died. It was great to see him recently in one of his major roles as Renfield in Dracula, to character roles in Budgie, Crown Court and countless other films and TV, his talent shone through. Rest in peace dear Jack.

Train Dreams is magnificent. Poetic, honest, aching. Egerton was born to be in a 1970s western. Reminded me of The Brutalist; Bentley like Corbet using old ways to tell an old story in a completely new way. Oh, and Will Patton’s voice. How I’ve missed it. He and William H Macy too - a double-Bill!

This is how artists of all stripes can push back against the onslaught of the enshittification of our culture through AI zone-flooding. When you can, if you can, say ‘no’ to this bullshit.
Insist on the human. Insist on payment. Don’t allow your work to be folded into the AI machine.
I'm already an above average writer so any supposed advantage to using an LLM goes out the window. I am not an above average artist, but that's why I pay artists when I need art. Remember I have it in my contracts that all work on my books (art, editing, translation, etc) has to be done by humans.
I imagine LLMs are less useful for expert wordsmiths like Mr. Scalzi.

After Past Lives, which I adored, I desperately wanted to enjoy Materialists. but it’s a beautifully wrapped box with nothing in it.

Didn’t even know this existed. This would have been the Christmas present I coveted most when I was eight - and I suspect that I would have been a little shocked.

Just listened to Anthology 4. Lovely stuff, but underscored by the cynical rasp of a large barrel being scraped dry. Surely the coffers are stripped bare by now. I say this as someone dumb enough to have put the vinyl edition on his Christmas list.

If you can catch Matthew Rhys playing Burton in…well…’Playing Burton’, grab the opportunity with both hands. All of Burton’s fire, mischief and remorse alive on the stage. Great night out at Neuadd William Aston in Wrexham.

If you’re able to get to this, get to it, by Jove. Film lover’s paradise awaits.
Folks, I really need some help. For the last 10-15 days, I've been pretty much out of action, which has put me two weeks behind on promoting my Film Stories 500 show in London next week.

I'd be grateful for any help/support in getting the word out.

Thank you.
