Greater Wellington results are in. @quentinduthie.bsky.social is back in in Te Awa Kairangi, so is Gabriel Tupou, unfortunately ACT's Nigel Elder also made the cut.

Especially satisfying to see Guppy booted out, considering the toxic and truly unhinged behaviour of his mate Bloxham towards Peri and her supporters

So freaking stoked about this!!! Go Peri!

Peri Zee has declared victory in the Upper Hutt mayoral election, defeating Wayne Guppy after eight terms.

If this crowdfund meets the goal I can pay myself the equivalent of the jobseeker benefit for the time between my current contract ends, and the start of the next academic year, at which point I'll become a full time student and borrow weekly living costs

I remember when a protester punched the co-leader of the Greens in the face.

Hana Maipi-Clarke had her home broken into by a political stalker.

I recall VFF protesting outside Clarke's parents' home while Jacinda was on holiday.

I dont remember hearing about National's concerns back then??

Calling people attack dogs is not at attempt to deescalate and maintain civility, it's a attempt to escalate to distract from a failing economy. www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

My extremely Swiftie teen and her BFF are burning off nervous energy in the kitchen baking Taylor-themed biscuits while listening to Taylor back catalogue and I predict things are going to reach fever pitch by 5pm

And past data is not very helpful when we haven't had a large plate boundary earthquake in recent human history. A m8 Alpine Fault or Hikurangi subduction zone quake is going to be something else entirely...

I sense Seymour's hand in this. Seismic standards were an example of 'bad regulation' he used to push the Reg Standards Bill. He fundamentally misunderstands the nature of EQ risk - what happened in the recent past is no indication of will happen in the future when we have a big plate boundary EQ
An excerpt from an op ed from David Seymour from Jan 2025. "New Zealand has lost a fortune to earthquake regulations in the past decade, because politicians thought, or should I say felt, more restrictions were the right thing to do after the Canterbury quakes. And yet, fewer than 500 people have died from earthquakes in the history of our country. That’s about as many as die from cancer every three weeks, but we can’t afford all the drugs they need. Hmmm.

It was jarring to see him in the Jacinda doco, standing behind her in Chch right after the mosque shootings, at marae events, in press conferences. He really has traveled a long way in just a few years.

“We are shocked to our core by harrowing images of famine in Gaza. We are revolted by what can only be described as a grossly disproportionate response from the Israeli Government."

It is described as *genocide*, you tool.
NZ will not yet recognise Palestinian statehood, Peters says in UN speech
Foreign Minister Winston Peters said there was no obvious link between recognising Palestinian statehood now and protecting work towards a two-state solution.

Use “I” statements please Winston. The tens of thousands of NZers who marched, the thousands and thousands more who see this genocide for what it is and who know recognising Palestine is an important symbol of solidarity, your decision does not represent us.
NZ Herald app screenshot with photo of Winston Peters in front of NZ flags. Headline says “Watch: Winston Peters says NZ ‘not ready’ to recognise Palestinian statehood”

Hey Hutt folks, you may miss it when voting, but please don’t vote for Suzanne Levy! She sounds fine, but OOPS she runs the TERF organisation Speak Up For Women.

It's a good thing, but well overdue. For years and years the commercial fishing industry has been spectacularly resistant to changing their practices when it comes to saving critically endangered species in Otago and Southand waters (see also NZ sea lions). Just hope it's not too late for hoiho.
