I dislike that Time Magazine has chosen to conflate CEOs with the people who actually got their hands dirty making the technology work.

I’m incensed that Fei Fei Li is half off the page. I’m sure she is too gracious to say it.

Valve HQ:

"AAA game about murdering a lot of Muslims and destroying their homes" "ship it"
"solo game in which you fight the IDF" "ban the savages"
"indie game that criticizes Western power dynamics with a horse metaphor" "unacceptable"
"This review hates Muslims" "ahh smell that thats freedom"
Valve has now rejected my complaint, confirming that "I don't like muslims" is a valid reason to leave a negative review on a game on Steam

This is where we're at now.

was at an event on AI for science yesterday, a panel discussion here at NeurIPS. The panelists discussed how they plan to replace humans at all levels in the scientific process. So I stood up and protested that what they are doing is evil.

I played Horses this weekend and I wrote down some messy thoughts not only on the game but especially on the specter of formalism that emerged to haunt us all for a moment.

I Hope You Get To Live Your Entire Life As A Human
I thought this was going to be a review of my time with Santa Ragione's Horses, the controversial art game recently banned from Steam and the Epic Store. To some extent, this will be that but after...

If we can only have art from people who "aren't in it for the money" that means we can only have art from privileged middle-class dilettantes. Making art being a viable career is responsible for nearly all worthwhile art, and if it's not a viable career any more we will get drastically less of it.

In Segway's defense, small electric mobility devices *have* been a game changer for cities.

It just turned out that a precondition for *a lot* of people was not looking like a total goober while riding one.

This composition had eluded me for nearly a decade, but yesterday I was finally able to capture it. A train rolled through just as the Duquesne Incline was crossing over the tracks in #Pittsburgh, creating a picture perfect winter scene. It was worth the hours and hours I've waited over the years.

Bike to train in the morning
Bike share to a meeting
Bike share to SkyTrain to bike to home

What more could anyone ask for? Two different types of trains!
