None of the problems of vaccines, disease, poverty or anything else, are unaffected by climate change. We do not live in a vacuum. It is all connected. We have reached the end of the leeway that we had for making these horrid, cruel, profit driven decisions.

A reminder that change.org petitions have zero impact on politicians in Canada (or anywhere really). It's basically performative engagement.

Only www.ourcommons.ca petitions have any weight whatsoever.

In the midst of some science writing, my headphones were filled with the evocative voice of @kdlang.bsky.social singing her way through "Absolute Torch and Twang". I was swept back to my youth in southern Alberta - so far away in place, time, & life experiences! Thanks KD!

The Primary Energy Fallacy is the idea that all primary energy from fossil fuels must be replaced with equivalent amount of clean energy.

BUT: Not necessary because >2/3 of all primary energy is lost as waste heat.

Electrification+renewables are far more efficient.

My mother told me a story that in her high school days in the 1950s some girls would attach a small gold chain to the waist of a mantis and wear it like living jewellery, to walk around their shoulders for a day

I completely agree. Anything we can do globally is better than sitting on hands or being complicit in the ocean’s continued degradation. It’s disappointing that the US refuses to join so many global efforts

And the US has not, and likely will not, ratify it. And there is little or no enforcement. The words and intent are good, but will it make a significant difference?

But they gather a number of points of personal information that can be sold to others for marketing. And we hope their storage of this personal information (why do they need to know how many people live at my address?) is sufficiently secure. I don’t trust them already and this does not add to that!
