Banning the 🇪🇺 only shows the post #Brexit British insecurity and provincialism.
catiomiles.bsky.social
As we discuss flags and their meaning and values, the 🇪🇺 is banned in the U.K. according to a 2021 Boris Johnson law still in place under Starmer.

But the flag represents everything for people in Ukraine, or Budapest, Romania or Tbilisi. 👇

And also what happened to the 2024 Labour campaign message to “make #Brexit work”?
catiomiles.bsky.social
Thank you, I didn’t know this.
catiomiles.bsky.social
Indeed.

Especially as their 2024 campaign slogan was “make #Brexit work”.

Fun fact: Greece pays a lot less in interest rate on their government debt... as they are in the €zone

This strikes me as a pretty major Brexit shift from Starmer.

Perhaps the beginning of 'Brexit is sh1t and has caused real economic damage'.

The prize is not awarded posthumously as far as I know.

Between 2019 and 2024 in real terms EU exports grew by 11%.

UK exports also grew. By 0.89%.

That's the total. Goods exports were lower in real terms in 2024 than in 2014.

@antonspisak.bsky.social of the @centreeuropeanref.bsky.social, a think-tank, observes that, after Brexit took effect at the end of 2020, Britain’s goods exports have grown less than those of any other economy in the G7 club of rich countries.

More than happy to do it.

And I will hand over to Zia Yusuf a history book so he can understand his role as an useful idiot.
catiomiles.bsky.social
Same here. 👍

But the budget surplus is a fact.
catiomiles.bsky.social
Overall Ireland is a lot better than the U.K.

Why denying facts?

most recently Ireland runs a €10 billion budget surplus vs a sink hole in U.K.
catiomiles.bsky.social
Ireland GDP is 70% higher than the U.K.

And Scotland still has some oil.

So doubling the GDP os achievable.

With such great prospects, the Scottish debt would be easier to finance with lower interest rates.
catiomiles.bsky.social
Anyway, big picture is this: as an EU member, Scotland GDP would double so the debt will halve as a share of GDP.

So sooner Scotland gets independence the better.
catiomiles.bsky.social
Scotland should not be punished for the reckless behaviour of the colonial power.

Scotland should also get hold of the UK assets: Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace, Crown Jewels, UK embassies, etc, etc.
catiomiles.bsky.social
The EU is extremely compassionate and understanding.

If only England would be a fraction as compassionate and understanding.

Just go in front of No10 and ask to joi the EU.
catiomiles.bsky.social
Scotland is not on a monetary union now as the current central bank is called the Bank of ENGLAND.

Scotland will have a seat at the European Central Bank, as other EU members (France, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Malta, etc).
catiomiles.bsky.social
Not sure what is so difficult about the currency.

Ditch the £, create a Scottish currency and when ready join the €, which is going to bring huge benefits such as lower interest rates.

This is what Ireland has done. Also Estonia, Croatia, Lithuania, Slovakia and so on.
catiomiles.bsky.social
Sure

But you are in front of the wrong building.

You need to go to No10 in London with your requests.

Good luck!

The alternative text from ChatGPT was “fix the education of higher foundations“... but someone decided not to go with this one.

‘Fix the foundations of higher education’. Jesus Christ, it’s like being governed by robots.

Yes, it should be compulsory viewing

The speech from Norway today was a warning Trump nominations will be discarded if he continues to do what he’s doing today in America.

Do watch it in full (and the Q&A), is just 15 minutes long.

But it is compulsory viewing.

I've been a bit sceptical of the "exodus of US-based academics to Europe" thing, but this is a notable move.

I am delighted to share that Nobel laureates Esther Duflo and Abhijit Banerjee will join our Department of Economics @econ.uzh.ch at the University of Zurich on July 1, 2026, as Lemann Foundation Professors of Economics.

Watch the speech in full.

It’s a lesson for the world, and in particular for US.

It should be compulsory viewing in our schools.
