I have just arrived here on Bluesky, after what, for many of us, has been a very tough week. The road ahead looks rocky but the Pacific Ocean always offers comfort. May my photo of Point Lobos, one of the most beautiful and unique state parks in California, give you a moment of joy.

The words that spring to mind when I think of Michael D. Higgins: erudite, intellectual, dignified, inclusive, sincere, fervent, jovial, moral.

We have been so very fortunate to have him. Go raibh míle maith agat, Michael D, you have done us proud.

I once had a dream about Michael D Higgins and in it he flew. Not high and not far, but he did fly, and when I awakened I thought, why sure, of course Miggeldy can fly, of course he can.
So emotionally distraught that Michael D Higgins isn't the president anymore...
Thank you Mr. President 🫡

Interesting perspective on the two terms of the Irish president Michael D Higgins, which end tonight.

Perhaps the most popular Irish man in Ireland, he has used his office to speak for the nation & for social justice. His successor has big shoes to fill, & is also a socialist. A good read:
Activism, opinions were hallmarks of Higgins' presidency
Sometimes controversial, strongly opinionated, but never dull, Michael D Higgins' 14-year term as Uachtarán na hÉireann comes to an end this week after many historic moments that helped define modern-...
