🧵 Trump’s Greenland brinkmanship puts the EU’s Anti-Coercion Instrument back on the table. Few cases fit economic coercion more cleanly.

But the ACI is often misunderstood. It’s not a bazooka, but a slow-loading cannon, able to fire anything from heavy shells to hot air. Here’s how it works ⬇️

In most Bambara-speaking regions of West Africa, large-scale conversion to Islam occurred in the 19th century. Pharmacological traditions became fused with the Qur’anic medicine and a new genre of Qur’anic medical writings emerged: hmml.org/stories/series-medicine-medical-texts-from-timbuktu

Sorry, Europe hasn't "appeased" the US. This media talk doesn't seriously reflect reality. Officials and most likely leaders are well aware of who they are dealing with. There just aren't any great answers which make it all better straight away.

And you don't untangle 80 years of inter-dependence overnight. Not least when life and livelihood are at stake.

Jeju Island in South Korea seems to have a similar tradition to Okinawa of piling up volcanic stones for walls & other structures which is called Doldam.
I wonder if the two practices are related.
It's theorised that the South of Korea used to be home to a Proto-Japanese–Ryukyuan language after all.

A different take in this Moroccan saying (Darija):

dīr ṛasǝk bīn ṛṛyus u ʕǝyeṭṭ a qǝṭṭaʕ ṛṛyus

(put your head amid other heads, and shout for the headsman)
“Do not bend your neck for that which cuts necks.”

i just read in Sáenz Badillos that the verb ḥ-m-d can mean ‘envy’ in Andalusi Hebrew poetry as well as it's more conventional meaning ‘desire, long for’:

does the earth blossom because it envies the sky?
The winter writes, with ink of rain and showers,
and shining lightning pen and hand of cloud,
a blue and purple letter on the garden
no craftsman in his cunning could devise;
so, when the soil longs for the heavens’ face,
she sews stars on the linen of her beds.
