One of the most maddening things about our current government is the way that they seem to think that if you find the right ambiguity of framing, they can continue to have it both ways and be everyone’s friend indefinitely.
Darren Jones is asked if the US bombing Venezuela & abducting its leader was lawful

Jones says he won't give a view on the action & he goes on to say its not up to politicians to make judgements on international law. Phillips points out thats exactly what they've done on Ukraine

to be fair to yglesias, who sucks, though it's an accurate description of the history of western nations, it's not why they are rich, and these sorts of things hold back growth
lovely little logic loop here. the left have accurately described reality, but i still think they're wrong, so what if it was somehow in fact the left's describing of reality that perverted history to make them right. quantum politics. no fair, you changed the outcome by measuring it!
I was wondering how this might all turn out to have been my fault

I feel like Trump is jealous of Obama for taking out Bin Laden. He wants his own heavily publicized victory against a monstrous enemy of the people who killed huge numbers of U.S. citizens.

More than oil or anything else he wants the optics of quickly and (for us) painlessly taking out an "enemy".
If Maduro is in custody my expectation is the admin will try to hold Dumb Nuremberg. They'll make it a judicial referendum on fentanyl and try to blame Maduro for the deaths from the opiate crisis.

understand desire of some people to still post in the other place because they believe there is an audience there worth speaking to. in that case seems prudent to use a client to post without reading the feed

I've done a lot of work in dementia clinics, and I've never tested a patient as many times on the same test as trump seems to be doing. I have literally no idea why they keep making him take them.

This is quite an important point; if you are a UK citizen with Twitter on your phone, opening it up is like playing Russian roulette that the algorithm might commit a strict liability offence on your behalf.
Has everyone whose scroll the illegal image appeared on also committed an offence by downloading it? This is one of those AI worst case scenarios that ought to make everyone aware of the current direction of travel.

the politics of the XL bully ban would be much harder today under a labour govt. you'd have Robert Jenrick talking about how he had a pitbull in the 80s and it hardly mauled anyone
Think one of the next big fronts in the culture wars will be between dog owners and people who really dislike dogs

“tax progressivity analysis reimagined as racial biology” perfectly sums up the new, very unpleasant (and ultimately misleading) fad for talking about members of our society as “net fiscal contributors” or as “net fiscal drains”
It isn't a real defense because as you must know, despite all these tweets, the whole concept is bullshit. In a society with redistributive taxation like ours, lots of people are net recipients, so lots of immigrants are net recipients. It's tax progressivity analysis reimagined as racial biology.

There are actually many more things you can point to as examples of recent scientific breakthroughs www.scientificdiscovery.dev/p/medical-br... than 'curing Alzheimer's in mice', which people have been claiming to have done for decades and has a tenuous connection to what happens in humans.
Wanna see real-life miracles? Fund scientific research.

A team of US scientists just cured Alzheimer’s in mice — and there is now hope that the disease can be reversed in humans.

Since we moved on from simple single sales, there is no objective truth about what is the best selling song, only choices about how to weigh different inputs. For me this means they are weighing those inputs wrongly.

I get that Starmer & Reeves are unpopular, I really don’t understand the extent of the dislike.
