Use bikes to do what needs to be done as much as possible (groceries, kid to school, library, get Christmas trees etc.). PhD in Astronomy some years ago. Enjoy computer programming as a hobby and for work. Help researchers use computer clusters and cloud.
Also, I think we are lucky so few people drive in the dedicated bus lanes now with no enforcement... image what will happen when people stat seeing other people routinely driving in it.. then our bus lanes will be no more.

“Even with the free parking and the parkade that the hospital has built, there were several days when the parkade was completely full with no extra parking spots,” Purdy said.

Solution: give people alternatives to driving.

"During the last 12 years of construction on the bike lane network, Halifax spent $900 million on road maintenance."

We are optimizing spending on a small fraction of our budget while ignoring the largest part? That's doing the most work for the least gain.

Thinking about options for BRT, you can only pick two of these three: cheep, effective, doesn't take lanes from cars. Which two will hfx pick?

When I got to Dal this morning I got a bit surprise... the bike racks had been cleared of snow! This might be the first time I have seen this happen. Thanks to who ever did that :) .

The Centre for Future Work released a new report stating 1% of jobs in Canada are oil jobs, and that number is declining.

“This downward trend should make governments think twice about calls for taxpayer subsidies” to energy giants to make oil projects like Bay du Nord more economically attractive.

Is our one climate policy, the industrial carbon price, going to be up to the challenge of doing all the heavy lifting to get Canada's emissions under control? It is also going to be a pretty big target for the O&G sector, will it be strong enough to be effective?

If you want to stop illegal drug use would you only go after the users and ignore the dealers? That's what we do with our oil and gas addiction. Canada is an oil and gas dealer and we are ignoring the role we are playing newsinteractives.cbc.ca/features/202...
Canada’s uncounted emissions

Reading life after cars, they describe how responsibility of the death of a pedestrian was shifted from systems to the individual. Makes me wonder, if my safety as a pedestrian is my responsibility, does that then give me the right to install bollards on my street to keep me and my family safe?

I just did a carbon footprint calculator. I bike everywhere and fly little so my transportation emissions were low. We use electricity to heat our home but I am stuck with dirty electricity from n.s. power. At the end it asked me how I felt, but none of the options it gave were angry.

Just biked through Allen St. up to Oxford. Saw some diagonal diverter shaped markings on the pavement. I think I heard that this will be tactical. Hope that doesn't mean it will be removed for snow clearing around... now-ish like we have been doing with flex posts and on-street bike parking?
