I published this essay today about the value of keeping democratic politics involved when questions of constitutional authority become relevant.
A Tale of Two Constitutions
What happens when two different visions of the Constitution go to bat against each other? Does it always end up before the Supreme Court?

This book absolutely rules. Feels like I'm taking a college course on Congress when I'm reading it.

What the fuck man
I'm not sure what to make of it, but every Somali I represent in immigration court currently (8 of them) have today had their hearings cancelled and their judges reassigned. They're now all assigned to a video judge from Louisiana and scheduled for court hearing in one month. 🧵

not even going to engage with the "puerto ricans are americans" conversation, but why are they even asking the players about this. the halftime show isn't even for them. don't they need to like, eat some orange slices and change their socks or something. i bet a ton of them spend that time pooping.

There should be no doubt that JB Pritzker is The Guy for 2028. No doubt whatsoever. Blows Newsom out of the water, and nobody else comes close. America's #1 class traitor will destroy all the secret creepy billionaires funding JD Vance and the other pedophiles
It's time to abolish Trump’s ICE.

I don’t know why I need to say this but the rhetorical function of “Trump’s ICE” here is to tie the existence of the agency to be abolished to the historically unpopular president, there is not a different ICE that would avoid abolition, it’s just the one agency guys

I cannot tell you how much doubt was consistently directed at the Gaza Health Ministry’s casualty numbers and how much pressure was put on news organizations to couch those numbers as unreliable.

Biden himself said they were fabricated!

It takes a special kind of loser to refer to flying to Minneapolis and staying at a hotel to do pepper spray drive-bys as being "in-theater." Pissbabies to the bone. I cannot imagine a more babyish caricature of the great big gap between their picture of themselves as menly men and the reality.
Q: Can you be specific about how many ICE and CBP agents are currently operating in the state?

HOMAN: 3,000. There's been some rotations. They've been in theater a long time. Day after day, can't eat in restaurants, people spin on you, blowing whistles at you. But my main focus now is draw down

I think Foner says this specifically about the framers of the 14th amendment. Equal protection, privileges and immunities, etc are all elastic terms to be decided by each generation thru the political process, not fixed in stone in the 1860s.

Josh Chafetz and Thomas Bell argue the Constitution is a work of political architecture and is not so legal in nature as many people think. Separation of powers is more a political principle than a legal doctrine, and by treating it as a legal doctrine, SCOTUS actually undermines its effectiveness.

This right here is one of my great pet peeves: THERE WERE NOT ONLY ONE GROUP OF FOUNDERS. The Reconstruction Founders led a massive, important constitutional change, and we don’t need to look at English common law to understand what equality, citizenship, and freedom meant. WE WERE OUR OWN NATION.

Americans voted to bring back measles.

Wasn’t front of mind for most voters, sure, but the pro-measles contingent was a key part of the Trump 2024 coalition, with RFK Jr. and “MAHA” possibly the margin of victory in a close race.

Vaccines were on the ballot. The plurality was anti- or didn’t care.
Holy moly this chart: Cumulative US measles cases

These reforms are good and substantial given what is stacked against Democrats.

That said, I think the sentence "this full conversation with the caucus has really begun after Alex Pretti's murder" is so damning. What country have you guys been living in?
Here's Senator Chris Murphy's extended discussion of this group of restrictions on ICE:
