Both Farage and the Conservatives delivered Brexit and they should never govern us again.

Strong 'bald men squabbling over comb' vibes to this attack line. Yes, Nigel Farage drove the economy into a cul de sac with Brexit. But the dude who refused to reverse it out is Keir Starmer.

UK-owned & -insured ships have carried £45 billion of Russian #LNG since 2022, fueling Russia’s war budget. The UK supports #Ukraine, but must do more.

If you live in the UK, sign this petition to ban UK shipping and insurance of Russian LNG.

How often does the European Court of Human Rights rule against the UK in removal cases?

The European Court of Human Rights has seldom ruled against the UK government in relation to the removal of people from the UK. Indeed, the Court rarely rules against the UK at all. It issued only one final judgment finding a violation of an ECHR right in a UK case in 2023 and one in 2024. Neither concerned immigration policy or deportation.

Since 1980, there have been 29 UK cases at the Court that have concerned either deportation (enforced removal of a foreign national) or extradition (removal of a person to another country for trial or to serve a sentence).

In 16 of these cases, the Court found that a planned deportation or extradition by the UK government would not breach the Convention and could go ahead. For example, in 2017, the Court held that the UK government’s decision to deport a Nigerian national who had lived in the UK since he was two years old did not violate the Convention: the individual’s long history of offending and the government’s legitimate interest of preventing disorder and crime outweighed the applicant’s Article 8 rights.

In the other 13 cases, the Court found that deportation or extradition by the UK government would violate the Convention and should not go ahead. This means that, on average, judgments of the European Court of Human Rights prevented removal of a foreign national only once every 4.5 years.

Four of these cases concerned the right to family life. For example, in its most recent finding of a violation relating to a UK deportation decision in 2020, the Court ruled that a Nigerian man who had been convicted of falsifying immigration documents could not be deported because it ran counter to the interests of his three young and financially-dependent children, all of whom were British citizens, and one of whom needed heart surgery. The other nine cases concerned deportation or extradition to countries where there was a substantial risk th…

I agree with Niall’s first point but this is a consequence of Farage pushing to get us out of the EU and is a direct consequence of Brexit.

1. This does not target the UK

2. This is clear evidence of being inside a customs union rather than floating alone

3. It was inevitable that Trump's actions at the head of such a large economy would result in dumping elsewhere.. Europe has to be able to take action to counter that.

“This development is yet another demonstration of the mounting cost of Brexit and Nigel Farage will have to explain to the steel workers he pretends to champion, how leaving the EU has benefitted them."

Farage must explain how Brexit has benefitted steel workers
Campaigners have warned that Brexit has left the UK "much more exposed" after reports that the EU is preparing a new 50% tariff on steel imports.

I can't find a single thing about Greta Thunberg's illegal detention and mistreatment on the BBC website. Do they not think turning away an aid convoy and beating up those trying to deliver it is newsworthy?

There are lots of reasons not to leave ECHR. But apart from anything else, it just doesn't solve the problem the Tories/Reform think it does.

E.g. the Supreme Court judgment re Rwanda being unsafe explicitly said it was not based on ECHR.

We flounced out of the EU on the say-so of politicians who lied to us. And what a total shitshow that’s turned out to be. The polar opposite of what they promised. Now the call to flounce out of the ECHR. By the same people. Telling the same lies. Has the country been kicked in the head by a horse?

Of course, Brits favour the agrifood deal with the EU.

They know it cuts paperwork, reduces border checks - and brings food prices down.

For the first time ever, London has met legal limits for nitrogen dioxide.

When I became Mayor, we were told it would take 193 years. We did it 184 years earlier than expected.

Cleaner air means a healthier city and big savings for the NHS.

To add to this: Sadiq Khan took a big political risk by doing this, and it appears to have paid off - or rather, the policy has worked as intended.

London Labour will be (quite reasonably) hoping voters notice...

Some good news.

London is meeting legal limits for toxic NO2 pollution for the first time – almost 200 years earlier than predicted – following the Mayor’s "world leading air pollution policies," City Hall announces.

The Ultra Low Emissions Zone - and similar policies - really do work.

They are so afraid of this they won’t seat a newly elected Congresswoman from AZ to keep it from happening.
The image is a screenshot of an X post from the account @Re... (Really American) dated 11 hours ago, claiming that Speaker Johnson has refused to swear in newly-elected Democratic Rep. Grijalva, who is described as the decisive 218th vote needed for a discharge petition to release the Epstein files. The post questions the reason for the delay. The image also includes a video still labeled "EXCLUSIVE" from Meidastouch Network, featuring Rep.-elect Grijalva, with text stating she is ready to sign the discharge petition. The background shows campaign materials with her name and slogans like "Se hizo historia!"

Today, the UN officially designated Israel’s assault on Gaza as a genocide.

As a party to the Genocide Convention, the U.S. has a legal obligation to obey our own laws, stop weapons sales to Israel, and demand a permanent ceasefire.

End the genocide. Ceasefire now.
257. The Commission recommends that all Member States:
(a) Employ all means reasonably available to them to prevent the commission of genocide in the Gaza Strip;
(b) Cease the transfer of arms and other equipment or items, including jet fuel, to the State of Israel or third States where there is reason to suspect their use in military operations that have involved or could involve the commission of genocide;
(c) Ensure individuals and corporations in their territories and within their jurisdiction are not involved in the commission of genocide, aiding and assisting the commission of genocide or incitement to commit genocide and investigate and prosecute those who may be implicated in these crimes under international law;
(d) Facilitate the investigations and domestic proceedings and take action (including imposing sanctions) against the State of Israel and against individuals or corporations that are involved in or facilitating the commission of genocide or incitement to commit genocide;
(e) Cooperate with the investigation of the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court.
258. The Commission recommends that the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court:
(a) Examine, within its continuing investigation in the Situation in the State of Palestine, the crime of genocide for amendment to existing arrest warrants and addition to future application for arrest warrants;
(b) Examine the involvement of officials mentioned in this report for inclusion as those most responsible for international crimes committed in the occupied Palestinian territory.
