I think "vertical morality" is absolutely how they understand morality, but I don't think it's the origin point. They don't see "every broken rule as deserving harsh punishment." They themselves break rules all the time; they only apply this logic to certain rules and certain people

Super interesting conversation. I'm a little wary of treating Nazism as the paradigmatic example of fascism, and Ganz dismissing a majority of mass shootings/violence as "apolitical" seems like a grievous error. Differences aside I'm glad to see people having this discussion
