My book "Researching Language and Digital Communication" is hereeee.

It may just be the most camp discussion of DMC so far. Including analyses of:

- Dolly Parton memes
- TikTok videos of Jungle and Billie Eilish
- anonymous Grindr profiles
On my way to London for the

conference tomorrow. Looking forward to lecturing a room of 800~ young people about 'youth language' 😂

[Or, more specifically, why linking language change to social media isn't as straightforward as most think!]

This is the point I was trying to make a few weeks back about academics continuing to use that platform, although in somewhat more euphemistic terms...
Quite frankly, I think non-fascists who are still using Twitter and somehow still believe it’ll help them achieve non-fascist aims are 100% delusional. It’s pathetic.
It's a censorship engine designed to promote ideas that Elon Musk likes and suppress ideas that Elon Musk does not like. I really don't get why this evident fact - that Musk openly admits! - is so hard for so many people to understand
November 21, 2025 at 4:47 PM
I realllllly wish people wouldn't use 'code-switching' interchangeably with 'style-shifting'. It's really hard to mark an essay that conflates the two when they cite a source that literally does the same thing 😭
November 21, 2025 at 10:54 AM
This is outrageous.

Academics/universities consistently take the high horse and ask 'what are we going to do about students using AI?!' when there's literally universities teaching courses with AI generated slides... Like come on.

I'm leading a training session on class and classism for some tutors this week. Alongside my personal narrative (state-educated, first in family, mum with physical disability, dad = bus mechanic, w/c family from Hounslow), I'm drawing on the Sutton Trust report 'Elitist Britain 2025'.
