I wrote an accessible introduction to the life and work of the first woman to win the Nobel Prize in Economics - Elinor Ostrom. She showed that are not doomed to fall into the "tragedy of the commons." Collaborative governance is possible.

It's not exactly an easy read, but it's worthwhile. I don't know how much of it has been superseded by newer historical / institutional analyses. I found there are lots of parallels between his descriptions of fascism and what is happening in the US today. I welcome suggestions for similar books.

The Great Transformation was well known in its time, but its prominence seems to have faded. Polanyi left his native Austria in 1933 and eventually immigrated to the US in 1940. So his perspective on fascism was personal and fresh. It’s a thought-provoking and insightful book that I recommend. 15/15

A self-regulating market economy requires the elimination of society – everything is incorporated into the economy. Government serves to protect the self-regulating actions. The vision was achieved in the 19th century but collapsed in the early 20th. 3/15

And please list the "radical solutions" that were even *proposed*—let alone enacted—by effing JOE BIDEN, NANCY PELOSI & CHUCK SCHUMER

I'M NOT MAD. I THINK IT'S FUNNY, REALLY

The higher ups at ICE don't care if there's a general strike in Minnesota. It paralyzes the economy of the blue state (their enemies) and impacts them not at all.

I don’t want to jinx anything, but ICE presence in South Minneapolis has been MASSIVELY down the last two days, and also far less militarized. Very few masks and uniforms, and efforts to disguise their vehicles. Community watch has been suffocating them, I think.

No. The problem has been very specifically one thing: if they move in any kind of detectable force, they pick up a tail within minutes, and then it often grows and grows until you have a dozen cars following two ICE SUVs, making so much noise that the entire neighborhood knows they’re there.
Do you think the general strike announcement spooked their higher ups at all?

it is true that donald trump is very unpopular, and almost everyone outside his hardcore base hates what's going on right now

but what that hardcore base is willing to support is extremely disturbing and I'm not a fan of sharing the country with a lot of these folks
I was actually fine not knowing my neighbors and most of my family would be Nazis just because Donald Trump tells them to be. Ignorance is fantastic actually.

Two white friends tail me home if it's outside the hours when people are out and about. I'm damn near third generation Minnesotan. It's not just "you're a citizen you'll be fine." I'm a black woman alone. Who knows what they will do.
I don’t think people quite understand that the occupation by ICE in the Twin Cities has more or less erased non-white people from public life. They cannot safely exist in any space accessible to the public and moving between private places leaves folks vulnerable to kidnapping by armed masked goons.

He was allegedly choked to death by a guard during a "struggle" after he refused to enter a housing unit without his medications.
