This piece from Sir Terry Pratchett's "Night Watch" book. I didn't know a composer had set it to music.

The book is a gut punch. This piece is a gut punch. And right now? Yeah.

@rhi.bsky.social I'm sure you've heard this?

lol I went back and checked the tape and the full quote is actually even nerdier than I remembered — and in the recording, you can hear the crowd *loving it.*

Eighty-one years ago today, over 7,000 prisoners of the German Nazi camp #Auschwitz, including some 700 children, were liberated by the soldiers of the Soviet Army.

1,689 days of murder, pain, suffering, and humiliation were over.
Today, we all remember. We must keep remembering.

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

Douglas Adams had some good ideas ...
they passed a law decreeing that anyone who had to carry a weapon as part of his normal Silastic work (policemen, security guards, primary school teachers, etc.) had to spend at least forty-five minutes every day punching a sack of potatoes in order to work off his or her surplus aggressions.

The river of the city of my birth is the Taff, but living in south-east London and working in the centre means that I've spent the last three decades crossing the Thames (usually by train) on an almost daily basis.
My favorite Twitter prompt was "RT this with your home river," so reskeet this with your home river.

Mine is the Patuxent.

Me: "Hmmm ..."

Me: "Fair enough!"
