The Pauline Epistles session today has been a lot of fun. I especially enjoyed my buddy Daniel Glover’s paper, “‘In Tongues of Mortals and Angels’: Tongues and Angelization in 1 Corinthians”… (1/2)

Behind this important reversal is a member of the Coast Guard who saw what was happening and had the courage to leak it to the press. That person deserves serious praise.

“It’s now clear that potent opposition to the dictatorship requires concerted efforts by actors across the country, both in and out of government, all directed at bringing every abuse of the regime and its dictator to the attention of a public that is already alarmed.”

Yes. Everything everywhere
The GOP is stuck with a lame duck dictator. Republicans didn't just lose the shutdown, they are losing the American people, who are increasingly repulsed by Trump's War Within America, and by Trump himself, as I discuss in PN.
The lame duck dictatorship
Trump is fighting his "war within" on multiple fronts and losing them all.

wow
Hours after Speaker Mike Johnson confidently declared that Senate Republicans would "fix" Thomas Massie's bill requiring release of the Epstein files, the Senate just passed the bill as is by unanimous consent without any changes. A massive, embarrassing debacle for Johnson.

It now goes to Trump...

NEW: Donald Trump’s grip on his party appears to be faltering in ways unseen since the immediate aftermath of the Jan. 6 attack.

He may yet reassert himself, but the gathering clouds signal a GOP reckoning with its post-Trump future.

Adam Kotsko has dipped his toes into the Paul Within Judaism literature and written a critique of it. Since I'm the person who alerted him to Matthew Novenson's work, I take some responsibility for this. I have some (friendly but critical) thoughts.

This is existential for Trump. MTG is creating a permission structure for MAGA (not just moderate GOP who never really loved Trump) to break with him decisively. If he can’t put this rebellion down it’s gonna get real bad for him real quick

Yellen is absolutely right, but as far as feeling sorry for corporations, businesses, and capital that supported the campaign and the early months of the regime? Well, tough shit.

It was all there, right in front of you. You could’ve put your capital against it, but you didn’t.
YELLEN: “.. businesses feel paralyzed by the uncertainty about policies that represent the strong but really personal whims of a single individual.”
