Well that sucks
As of 12/24/25, USPS changed policy on when they postmark mail. Mail dropped off is no longer guaranteed a same-day postmark. Tax returns & other time-sensitive items are now stamped when they reach a regional processing center, which may be days later. Plan deadlines accordingly to avoid penalties.

I see there’s a post about microplastics going around with a photo of drinking straws, so here is my semi-regular reminder that the 3 biggest sources of microplastics are tires (45%), synthetic clothing particles (35%) and paint (~10%).
Lay article attached:
One of the biggest microplastic pollution sources isn’t straws or grocery bags – it’s your tires
Every few years, the tires on your car wear thin and need to be replaced. But where does that lost tire material go? The answer, unfortunately, is often waterways, where the tiny microplastic particle...

Hey #CleanAirSky friends! I have a question: anybody know anything about potassium permangate filters? I'm writing a story about bad air and hoping to include a sidebar about DIY air purifiers

The more I have looked at the artist’s other work, the more I have become convinced that this is probably awkward and fake-looking on purpose.
I guess it's fitting that it's a reimagined, worse version of someone else's artwork

yaaaaayyy we made it!
Attention NYC: We made it past the earliest sunset of the year.

No, it's not on the solstice. That's the shortest day, but the earliest sunset is sooner and the latest sunrise is later.

So those of us who, like me, are primarily offended by early sunsets have officially survived rock bottom.

Really wild estate sale in Milwaukee this weekend. Dubuffet, Eames, Bertoia, Saarinen, Warhol... you'd expect this stuff to get offloaded via auction or something, not an estate sale.
River Hills: Spectacular Mid-Century & Pop Art! starts on 12/4/2025
View information about this sale in Milwaukee, WI. The sale starts Thursday, December 4 and runs through Sunday, December 7. It is being run by Landmark Estate Sales.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

Twitter accounts are based in Russia. BlueSky accounts are based in homes with, frankly, too many books, plants, obsolete cables, and pieces of rustic pottery, that could do with a bit of a tidying up, to be honest.

I had three orders:
- everything bagel toasted with hummus
- salt bagel, unsliced
- plain bagel with egg and cheese

none of these would have been a winner 😂
Tell me your bagel order and I will tell you *based on NYC cultural expectations* if you have won or lost your election for political office in NYC.
One of my favorite things about NYC is whenever anyone runs for office here they are required to disclose their bagel order.

Hey. The fragmentation of the social media landscape has been hard on indie #scicomm 🧪 projects

So if you'd like to follow a podcast that's enthusiastic about #linguistics, could you check out @lingthusiasm.bsky.social?

And if you think your followers might like to, could you give this a repost?

As part of my dissertation, I am researching audiobook narration.

If you have listened to an audiobook within the last two years, or have previously been a frequent audiobook user, I would really appreciate your thoughts!

This guide is great. I've used it many, many times since 2020. I also have handed out the physical pamphlets multiple times and plan to do so again.

Highly recommended. It also is helpful because it reminds you that you aren't losing your shit for no reason, they really are fascists
If you’ve just followed me, you might want to take a look at my organizing guide which gives 40 concrete, practical suggestions on how to legally organize against fascists in our communities. There’s something for people of all identities and abilities in here.
