Dismissing the merits of access to HE - as befits a privately educated scholarship-funded MP who has enjoyed the benefits of a Cambridge education with an Erasmus year in France.
Apparently not everyone is allowed to have aspirations.

A new kind of request this morning, from someone I don’t know: ‘your chapter is great; I’ve cited it in my own chapter. Please read the chapter and let me know if it’s all correct’.
Errr… perhaps at least acknowledge that you’re asking for a favour from someone you don’t know?

Went in during lockdowns cos we were 'key workers'. Got everything online. Remember driving in on deserted post-apocalyptic roads to teach six ppl with their hoods up and gloves on and all the windows open from behind a visor and a mask. And this is how it's written up.

Over Epstein.
En de rest.
Via The Economist.

Always a treat to see some radical publishers happily publish and sell books discussing at length the invisibilisation of women's work in radical circles - while happily doing that very same thing themselves.

I am 100% shoehorning this in my 'France since 1945' module this term. Adorable and pretty on point.

👏👏👏

Don't know what kind of schadenfreude has descended on me, but I am all here for the Wuthering Heights critical fiasco.
"Life cannot just be about one sad thing after another," says the man responsible—directly or indirectly—for like 90% of the sad things that happened in the past year.
The Heritage Foundation has released a 250-year roadmap to “save America.”

The document is a how-to guide for subjugating girls & young women: a detailed plan to push them out of college, funnel them into early marriage and motherhood, and then trap them there.

1/ ProPublica collected handwritten letters in mid-January from children held at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, the same facility where 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was taken.

Hundreds of kids are still detained.

We’ll let the children’s words speak for themselves. 🧵

They’re doing it everywhere, sadly. In addition to the mindless removal of the compulsory GCSE, the current wave of cuts and general anti-arts & hums discourse are a new low.

What a charming and delightful homage to the New Wave, Godard, Seberg and Co.

I mean, what’s the vision here? Becoming a monolingual country (since immigrants are also no longer welcome) and trust that all our language needs can be covered by Google Translate?
Genuinely angry with the constant targeting of MFL for cuts - for colleagues and students, first, but also the dangerous shortsightedness of becoming a country where the cultural openness and critical skills which are central to MFL degrees will be lost and regarded as irrelevant.
