When told “We should build sprawl
With a big shopping mall”
She frowned and said “Au contraire.”

Now to get Portland Fire & Rescue on this page too.
“Eighty-six percent of what FDNY does is medical emergencies, 2 percent is structural fires. But every street based decision is made around the potential of structural fires. That shows how the decisions we have are not set up to prioritize safer streets.” nyc.streetsblog.org/2025/10/30/v...

This video from Portland is a metaphor for what is going on in America. ICE trying so hard to get Americans to cross a line and if they don't, dragging them across the line and violently attacking.

You should also be saving PIRC’s hotline to your phone contacts to report ICE activity.

I think about this sometimes. In San Francisco I took transit a lot, but here we mostly only take it to go downtown, and not even always for that. Medical appointments that take 15 min on a bike would take 30 minimum on transit (26 of which are walking!), or 42 min to minimize walking to 5 minutes.

I was sent this by a Georgian this morning. 2025 premiums vs 2026 premiums for someone making $65k a year.

Republicans in Washington did this.

This is what I'm fighting to stop. This is what’s at stake in this shutdown fight.

Trump’s deployment of troops to Portland is a dangerous escalation of authoritarianism. Now is the time to find our own ways of standing up and fighting back to preserve our democracy. Fellow vets: we need you to muster. And those serving: you can refuse an unlawful order as you may receive it.

As of 2pm today - less than 6 hours after receiving formal notice that the President had federalized Oregon’s National Guard in Portland - we filed a lawsuit.

The president has overstepped his authority.

“many people get struck and killed in places without sidewalks” <- The lesson here is that we need more sidewalks, not that people shouldn’t walk in those places. What if it’s the only way they can get to their destination?

you wouldn’t believe how many legislators were certain that rural areas were subsidizing Portland area transit when in fact STIF very much is sending money the other direction for small town veterans and seniors to catch the one bus that runs to a nearby hospital for dialysis or whatever else
the proposal from the oregonian to allow transit payroll tax money to spent on on things beside transit is characteristically stupid

If you don’t have robust public transit, providing transportation options to the ~30% of Oregonians who don’t drive *is* a pressing transportation need!

A 90,000 CHF fine for going about 16 mph over the speed limit. Anything 15mph or more over the limit in urban areas can draw a fine + 3 months of loss of license. Time for income-based fines in the US (and for any speeding to be ticketable!).
