I spent like an hour yesterday adding comments on the North End Complete Streets map & plan to go to one of the public consultations. Yet the the Province rips out this piece of traffic calming infrastructure in a day. Just WHAT is the fucking point?
For the record, the traffic diverter would have improved safety not only for cycling, but for pedestrians and drivers as well. The area has speeding issues on Harvard which would be prevented with this diverter. Safety, traffic easing, enhancing other forms of transportation. These are the benefits.
Well, Halifax's newest modal filter – an essential part of the Allan/Oak local street bikeway – lasted less than 24h before being torn out. #BikeHfx

Not to be too dramatic but if this is true then the province has essentially stripped residents of the HRM of their power as vested in our municipal democracy.
Construction workers told me that the province intervened via the Department of Labour and had them remove the diverter. I haven't confirmed that info in any way however.

I dunno about you, but where I grew up, "skeet" is an insult.
and yes this is a tweet!!

if in casual conversation you say "I saw a tweet the other day" you don't correct yourself to say you saw a "toot" or a "skeet", bc deep down we all intuitively know the tweet is a format

My mom told her physical therapist she wears a mask because her husband and daughter are immunocompromised. The PT said she is too but isn't worried bc she knows if she dies she is going to heaven. Then her co-worker yelled, “Shut up Debbie you wear a seatbelt and take blood pressure meds” 👀

Probably the worst of them all is the Ring doorbell.

It’s sold as safety, but it’s much more about fear and paranoia in a box that turns you against your community. The more of them in the world, the worse our neighborhoods get. Don’t help the spiral continue.

Stop "hoarding" perfectly good stuff so the plutocrats can hoard more dough. Really people!!!
From the people who brought you planned obsolescence and annual styling, "not shopping" has been rebranded as "device hoarding"
stupid young people, stop buying a new phone every year if you don't want to be broke. wait no, not like that.

The Halifax Regional Municipality is launching Phase 2 of the North End Complete Streets project, aimed to make streets in Halifax’s north end safer, more comfortable and more accessible for residents. Your feedback will help shape the future of these streets. Learn more: buff.ly/s5nHmDN

Though the Maynard and Creighton designated streets are pleasant late-night routes after going to a movie downtown, I deeply dislike having to guess where my errand stops are on Agricola (or backtracking if I miss my intersection). Really doesn't invite engagement as a neighbour or consumer.
Reading the comments left so far, I wonder once again why we keep trying to make Maynard/Fuller & Creighton/Northwood work as LSBs, instead of just putting protected bike lanes on Agricola.

I snapped this one at sunset tonight from Figueroa Mountain Road in Santa Barbara County looking towards the Gaviota Coast. The distance between me and the boat is shockingly well over 30 miles! #Photography

And only one fucking bus north of Duffus. I love the 7, don't get me wrong, but this densely populated area needs more than a quaint little downtown loop.
District 8 has had a rough go. Halifax explosion, "urban renewal" highways, Africville, and now suffering dilapidated community centers so suburbanites can have free parking.
According to the city's model, D8 generates something like a $45m surplus annually.

On a 30 year annualization, the long-waited Needham Centre would be ~$1.6M per year.

Or: North End Halifax is completely capable of just buying itself nice things without anyone else being involved.

When I wrote about the ancient Zanclean megaflood filling the Mediterranean in as little as 12-18 months (!), it was wistfully.

I'm English. Lovely place, England, but Big Geological Drama? None of that round 'ere, sadly.

Imagine my delight at what geophysicists found in the English Channel.

Falling for anti-migrant racism doesn't protect workers, it entrenches capitalism by making workers more vulnerable & exploitable! Our enemy arrives in limousine, not someone on a boat fleeing colonial devastation.

Being pro-migrant is central to our collective fight against fascism!

Canada plans to increase deportations by 25 percent over the next two years. 25 PERCENT!!!

So, uh, what happens if a city goes bankrupt? Do we get de-incorporated and absorbed by the province? Does a rich guy buy us as a joke?
Purdy is saying we can't refill all of our reserves and we're already paying back the draining of our rainy day emergency fund to keep taxes low. We will need to pay for emergencies out of pocket if this reserve is empty, which would be more expensive to tax payers in the long term.

If you’re making up gift packages for unhoused people this holiday season, include wool socks. Wool dries faster than cotton, and can still provide warmth even when they’re damp.
Need for dry wool socks for people sleeping rough in Halifax is unrelenting: ‘We get to go home. They don’t’
Retired RCMP officer and a friend started a sock fundraiser eight years ago, and the need continues to grow

Anybody know what the new Extended Producer Responsibility recycling rules mean for people in apartments and condos? As usual, the info on the HRM website reads as if all residents have curbside pickup. The tyranny of the single-family detached home continues. #HaliSky

Nobody asked, but:

I think the biggest pitfall of sci-fi/fantasy storytelling, especially for worldbuilders, in the infodump.

You're (rightfully) just so proud of all the work you put into creating a cohesive setting that you just wanna PUKE it all over readers/watchers on page one.
