This is, at base, an argument against Democrats participating in politics. The idea that the left wins by entirely ceding the creation of public opinion to the right just doesn’t make sense on any level. There is no amount of scrutiny to which it stands up.
The two obvious flaws here are that 1) it makes policy choices reactive instead of proactive and 2) it ignores the problem being addressed by the (probably misguided) original idea: that there is a robust narrative universe that excludes Democratic ideas.

They have nothing. Nothing. They kidnapped a legal resident, shipped him across the country, denied access to his attorney, and are now trying to deport him. And their only justification for it is either protected speech or vague descriptions of alleged crimes committed by other people.
